5. Reason for Authority Cited: Medical education is undergoing a transformation causing significant challenges to teaching programs and educators. Healthcare reform, advances in technology, mandated shorter work hours, and the unprecedented volume of information and critical knowledge students and providers must learn and apply, all impact the educational process. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) also recognizes that OB/GYN residency programs are facing the challenge of ensuring consistent education, objectively assessing and monitoring performance and consistent reporting of individual proficiencies aligned with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s (ACGME) Core Competencies and Milestones. CoreCases for OG/GYN helps address these challenges and provides a process for instruction. This web-based product meets educational prerequisites and teaches residents using case-based curricula incorporating competencies/milestones with tracking, assessments, and reporting which are required by the ACGME for accreditation. Proficiency in core competencies is required prior to graduation and this service allows residents to learn the required knowledge faster, more efficiently, and with greater convenience. Administrators are now required to routinely evaluate, track and report on progress to accrediting bodies using unbiased, objective methods. CoreCases allows for independent study that can be tracked by supervisors.
