About this file
This document is an amendment to a solicitation for the Lock and Dam (LD) 8 Sheet Pile Installation and construction project. The amendment updates plan sheets S-001 and S-201 and specification section 31 32 23. Specifically, it modifies sheet pile requirements, tie rod support details, and permeation grouting experience qualifications. The purpose of the permeation grouting is to create a seepage cutoff between the existing lock sheet pile cutoff and the newly placed sheet pile. Offerors must acknowledge receipt of this amendment by the time and date specified in the solicitation. The solicitation was issued on July 8, 2022 by the Department of the Army Corps of Engineers Engineering District St Paul for sheet pile installation and construction work at Lock and Dam 8.

Summary of Changes:
1. General Structural Note 10.A. on Sheet S-001 is changed:
FROM:
Sheet pile sections used for closure cell construction along existing monoliths (either side of the cell structure) shall have elastic section modulus no less than 80 cubic inches per foot, minimum thickness of 3/8”, and a moment of inertia (I) greater than 1200 IN^4 per foot.
TO:
Sheet pile sections used for closure cell construction along existing monoliths (either side of the cell structure) shall have elastic section modulus no less than 69 cubic inches per foot, minimum thickness of 3/8”, and a moment of inertia (I) greater than 680 IN^4 per foot.
2. General Sheet Note 2. On Sheet S-201 is changed:
FROM:
Tie rods for sheet pile shall be snug tight with sheet pile in vertical position, prior to fi lling of the structure.
Provide temporary support as necessary for the tie rods, and sagging of tie rods shall be no more than 1 inch.
TO:
Tie rods for sheet pile shall be snug tight with sheet pile in vertical position, prior to fi lling of the structure.
Provide support as necessary for the tie rods, and sagging of tie rods shall be no more than 1 inch. Tie rod supports shall be maintained after installation and left in place at the end of the contract.
3. Specification Section 31 32 23, 1.1 Summary is changed:
FROM:
Permeation grouting and tremie grouting are required for this project. Permeation grouting fi lls pores in granular soil, with flowable particulate grouts. Microfine cement grout is injected under pressure either through single port or multiple port pipes placed into the area to be grouted. The grout characteristics and soil void size must be properly matched to permit the microfine cement grout to enter the pores or voids. The foundation area to be grouted is shown on drawing S-101. The purpose of the permeation grouting is to create a seepage cutoff between the existing lock sheet pile cutoff and the newly placed sheet pile. The Contractor is responsible for developing and conducting all aspects of the permeation grouting plan with approval by the Contracting Officer. The Contractor or its subcontractor must demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of experience in permeation grouting for the purpose of creating a seepage barrier.
