Q&A

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Question 1: Is this a thumb bucket combo set up or a separate thumb and bucket?

Answer: Separate thumb and bucket

Question 2: Does the thumb need to be progressive link?

Answer: No

Question 3: Do they wish to easily disconnect and remove the thumb as well as the bucket?

Answer: It is specified in the contract that the all attachments be compatible with the hydraulic quick coupler. The excavator will serve two main functions depending on time of year. During spring and summer, the excavator will be set up with the bucket and thumb. It will perform maintenance activities onsite such as excavation, rock manipulation, vegetation clearing, etc. During fall and winter time, the excavator will be set up for debris management during flood events. The bucket and thumb will be removed and the shears will be put on. The ability to quickly change between the Shears and the Grapple is needed to effectively manage debris. That’s why attachments must be compatible with the hydraulic quick coupler supplied with the excavator.

Question 4: Is the 3,000 lbs the bucket weight or the material weight?

Answer: Minimum Bucket Weight. Minimum will be added to the contract language.

Question 5: Main pin type hydraulic thumb. Can you clarify what you mean here?

Answer: Direct Link Type

Question 6: Stump/Wood Shear Requirements: Does the Corp currently use a shear on a machine now? What make and model do they have in mind or currently use?

Answer: USACE Seattle does not currently own a stump/wood Shear. USACE Seattle has verified there are multiple manufacturers that supply shears for this size machine. Listing a manufacturer could excluded competition from other shear manufacturers.
