Q&A
1. The 14’ wide hull, is this to the outside of the hull or overall width (outside of fenders)?
If the hull is 14’ wide, the overall width will be 15’ with the 6” “D” fenders on the sides.
ANSWER: The hull beam shall be a maximum of 14’ not including fenders. Therefore, it is acceptable if the 6” fenders are outside the 14’.
2. Your spec requirement do not match what is available in the market. The 6068AFM85 300 HP is an M3 rating; it does not include a 4000 hour annual use. Please confirm annual hours operation plus complete the duty cycle;
%time at WOT = 33% %time at Cruise = %time at Idle =
ANSWER: Spec revised to:
The engines shall be marine diesel engines rated to deliver between 300-400 HP and shall be selected based on the following operational profile:
• Operational hours per year - 2,000 hours
• Percent time at cruise speed (60% power) - 60%
• Percent time at idle - 30%
• Percent time at max speed (100% power) - 10% time
• Maximum duration while operating at max power - 1 hour
• Normal vessel operating day away from the dock - 8 hours
3. Specification heading #C425 calls for the cover over the steering gear to be water tight.
The stern and side bulwark has freeing ports for the deck. The cover for the steering gear extends from the back of the engine house to the stern and the full width of the boat. This will virtually make it impossible for the space to be water tight. Please consider non-skid fiber glass grating with removable sections for maintenance.
ANSWER: Spec does not require “watertight” it only requires weathertight seals between the aluminum decking/access plates and the steel frame.
4. Specification heading #C455 calls for 5 ton Wintech CP series winches. Please specify the model number. Basically the 5 ton can refer to various specifications of the winch, 1st layer, 4th layer, dog holding power, etc. See attachment.
ANSWER: Spec Section C455 will be revised to require two 5 ton electric winches similar to Wintech Model CP4000-40.
5. Specification heading #C602 – D calls for hydraulic and fuel piping to be all welded and no tread connections. I assume it will be OK to have threaded connections on the piping to connect hoses. Will it be acceptable to mount the gear cooler independent of the gear rather than on the gear itself?
ANSWER: Threaded hose connections are acceptable. Location of the gear cooler is at the Contractor’s discretion.
6. Specification heading # C640 calls for the grid coolers to be single pass. Can we use a two pass coolers (shorter length) that will meet the design criteria? This will allow the cooling connections to the engines to stay within the engine room.
ANSWER: The requirement for single pass will be removed from the specification.
7. Section C415, Exterior watertight doors requires stainless steel doors. Would you consider aluminum water tight doors? Manholes and hatches are aluminum. Stainless doors are very heavy compared to aluminum considering dismantling.
ANSWER: Yes, the spec has been revised.
8. Section C420, Kevels, 24’ kevels take up a large space on the sides of the boat reducing the walking space. Would you consider using 6” bitts with 1.5” bar cross arm which will allow more walking space on the side between the house and bulwark. Locating the kevels on the side also presents issues with lifting eyes.
ANSWER: Yes, the spec has been revised.
9. They are not mentioned in the specifications but would recommend roller chocks on the sides for face wire cables vs fixed pipe type.
ANSWER: The spec has been revised to include two 8” roller chocks.
