3.0 Specific Tasks:
3.1 BASIC SERVICES: The contractor shall provide services for updating the controls on the powerplant intake crane. The Intake Gantry Crane was originally installed in the mid-1950’s and was manufactured by Moffett. In 2011, the crane underwent a project to upgrade the controls to the present state. Since that time, it has been determined that the resistor bank on the main hoist (80 ton capacity) is inadequately sized to allow for the lowering of the load without significant over-heating issues. The existing control system on the crane consists of components manufactured by Magnetek.
3.2 The contractor shall install contractor furnished components to match the existing crane control system. Work shall include removing the old resistor bank and the installation, testing, and startup of required components to make a fully functional system. The components needed to complete the work are as follows:
Main hoist drive-Magnetek 4091-VG+S4 Dynamic Brake Drive-Magnetek CDR-4220D Resistor Bank-Magnetek EDB-4077DHWL Encoder-Dynapar HSD35 (with a retrofit kit to attach to the existing motor shaft)
The contractor shall be responsible with coordinating the design with Magnetek to ensure all the components are compatible to make a fully functional system.
The motor on which the encoder will be installed has a shaft diameter of approximately 2.75 inches and is located on a moving trolley, therefore accommodations will be needed for the management of the encoder cable (such as a festoon system or a conductor bar/collector system).
At the completion of the work, the contractor will be required to demonstrate the complete raising and lowering of the bulkhead gate to ensure there is no overheating of the resistor bank or wiring and that all components of the control system function correctly.
3.3 Road Closure. This work will include some activities that will require utilizing a manlift to access the crane.
This will involve a closure of the road across the top of the dam which will need to be coordinated in advance with the COR. However, the road must remain open from Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm until 8:00 am on Monday.
3.4 Submittals. The contractor shall coordinate with Magnetek in the preparation of the design drawings. The contractor shall submit the design of the installation and the components to the COR for approval before any on-site work has begun. At the completion of the project, manufacturer’s drawings of record including all programming information shall be submitted.
3.5 Protection of Existing Facilities. Contractor shall be responsible for protection of the facilities from any damage that may occur during the installation. Any damage done to the facility due to the construction shall be repaired at the expense of the contractor.
3.6 Housekeeping. Daily clean up of all debris and water materials is required. Debris shall be removed on a regular basis.
3.7 Debris Disposal. It shall be the contractor’s responsibility to properly dispose of any removed and un-necessary items as well as construction debris. The Corps reserves the right to keep any components as they see fit.
3.8 Warranty. Parts and on-site labor shall be warranted for one year following the Government’s acceptance of the work.
