Amendment 0002 for W911SR-19-Q-ABMS is issued to provide answers to industry-submitted questions. The closing date of the solicitation remains July 12, 2019 @ 5:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) as amended in Amendment 0001. The question period is unchanged and remains July 5, 2019 5:00 PM EDT. Questions received after this date and time, will not be CONSIDERED. No telephone requests will be honored. All terms, conditions, requirements and specifications of the original solicitation remain the same.
Question 1: (Section 2.a.iv.c) - Can you provide more information regarding what is meant by “flow based mode”?
Answer 1: Breathing machines use sine, triangular and square waves to evaluate respirator performance but these are limited air flow patterns.
In order to evaluate the respirator performance in practical use, it is desirable to test the respirator using the actual breathing patterns of wearers. However, it has been a difficult task for a breathing machine to generate complicated flow patterns, since the human respiratory volume changes depending on the human activities and workload.
The goal is to reproduce a worker’s respiration pattern. This consists of having the ability to input various flow patterns such as breathing pattern signals and fixed air flow patterns. The device should be equipped with an ability to compensate for the difference in inhalation and exhalation volume, and the measurement errors on the breathing flow rate.
