SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

The contractor shall furnish ammunition in accordance with the specifications listed below.

AM16, AMMUNITION, 45ACP, 185gr JHP, Match, Custom Loaded

16a. PROJECTILE: The projectile shall be .45ACP, 185gr, JHP. All projectiles for each lot of ammunition must derive from a single OEM lot. Evaluation criteria–inspection, accuracy standard.

16b. CASE: New, unfired .45ACP brass case obtained from a single OEM lot. Overall length of the case shall be 0.893” with a tolerance of + or - 0.001”. Evaluation – inspection, pass / fail.

16c. PRIMER: Factory specification primers that meet performance requirements and are from a single OEM lot. Evaluation – accuracy, velocity and function standards.

16d. PROPELLENT: The manufacturer shall establish the powder type and charge weight to meet performance requirements and maintains chamber pressures within SAAMI recommendations. All powder for each lot of ammunition must derive from a single OEM lot. The powder used shall not be overly sensitive to atmospheric conditions so as to severely degrade accuracy, nor cause large variables in velocities or excess chamber pressures, while operating in temperatures ranging from 30F thru 115F. Evaluation – accuracy, velocity and function standards.

16e. ASSEMBLED CARTRIDGE: Assembled cartridge overall length shall not exceed 1.230” nor be less than 1.200” when measured from the tip of the projectile to the base of the cartridge. Crimp measured at the case mouth shall be 0.469” diameter or smaller. Evaluation – Inspection Pass / Fail

16f. LIVE FIRE TESTING: All candidate ammunition will be fired through a 5 inch, Kart or KKM Precision match barrel mounted separately from the firearm in a fixture to test for accuracy and velocity. The ammunition will then be fired through assembled pistols to test the ability of the ammunition to reliably function the firearm. Evaluation – accuracy, velocity and function standards.

16g. FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Candidate ammunition must burn clean and leave minimal residue. Ammunition must function reliably from assembled firearms and there must be zero malfunctions that are attributable to the ammunition and zero ammunition defects. The function test will be conducted with the following pistol; 1911. Evaluation criteria – zero ammunition related malfunctions and zero ammunition defects. Pass/Fail.

16h. ACCURACY STANDARDS: Five groups; ten-rounds per group; fired at target placed 50 yards from muzzle. Measurements are to be computed from center to center of the widest shots (extreme spread) in each of the ten round shot groups. Extreme spread of the five groups, compiled and averaged, shall not exceed 1.30 inches and the extreme spread of any individual shot group may not exceed 1.50 inches. Evaluation standard - pass / fail

16i. MUZZLE VELOCITY: The average velocity (corrected) of the ammunition when conditioned at 70 degrees, plus or minus 5 degrees, shall be 800 Feet Per Second, + or – 20 FPS, and contain extreme velocity spreads of less than 35FPS in each group. Velocity shall be measured using a chronograph with the center of the chronograph array placed 15 feet from the muzzle. Each of these ten shot groups will be averaged and then those five results will be compiled and averaged. Evaluation standard – pass / fail.

16k. PACKAGING: The cartridges shall be assembled in identifiable lots. Ammunition will be packaged 50 rounds per box, and 20 boxes (1000 rounds) per case. Each case, and individual box in that case, shall be labeled with the lot number, caliber, projectile weight and projectile type.
