The length of a scheduled ED physician may vary but shall not exceed 12 hours unless the Chief of the Emergency Department or designee gives authorization. While the contractor personnel shall not be scheduled to work more than 12 consecutive hours, this does not imply that the contractor personnel should not take additional time that is needed to make the appropriate treatment disposition for patients that have been under his/her care. Emergency Physicians are expected to maintain continuity of care to the extent possible so that patient dispositions are completed and the number of “sign outs” at the end of a given shift is kept to a minimum.

When required, those shifts will be provided to the Contractor approximately six weeks prior to the month to be worked. These hours will be invoiced under the unscheduled hours.

Patient care and satisfaction as well as patient flow through the ED are of paramount importance.
