3. Requirements

The filling and pressing molds must be capable of handling the load of pressing pyrotechnic mix into a canister at a pressure of 100 tons. The filling/pressing molds will be built in accordance with the drawings listed above. The crimping molds are identical to the filling mold with the exception that is called out on both the M1 and M2 assembly drawings of the molds.

4. Exceptions/Changes:

The drawings for the molds were made and modified in the early 1960s and it is understood that newer and better methods of manufacturing and materials may be available today than were unavailable at that time. Therefore if the contractor wishes to propose a different materials and methods of manufacture than what is on the drawings, this can be considered.

However if the alternate method is approved the contractor will be required to provide a complete set of drawings (assembly and details) for the new molds and also certify that the molds will withstand the load of the 100 ton presses without breaking or allowing the deforming of the canisters. Materials on the original drawings that require a specific hardness will need to have a similar material as on the drawing and match the hardness on those parts.

There is a potential for change to the M1 canisters themselves, therefore the dimension of

4 7/8” for Part 12 on drawing 33630ME-127 may be reduced by as much as ½”. Also there is a potential for change to the M2 canisters themselves, therefore the dimension of

3-15/16” for Part 12 on drawing 33630ME-129 may be reduced by as much as ½”. If these dimensions change the depth of the center bore for the crimping molds will also change.

These changes will be finalized and the final dimension will be provided to the contractor at the time of Notice to Proceed.

5. Identification:

Each mold will be identified as to what it is for, i.e. 155mm M1 F-P or 155mm M1 Crimp.

Identification can be made by securely fastening a name plate to the exterior of the mold or etching or stamping the mold.
