A00002 - Solicitation: VA69D-17-B-1571 Project: Upgrade Potable Water System and Control Upgrades Project #: 585-16-102 At the Oscar G Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, MI 49801

Additional Contractor Solicitation Questions and VA Responses

Contractor Question #1: “Need clarification on 2 items. The work around the meter is sch10 stainless steel, not copper so we will have to weld new threadolets and flanges for new vakves. Does this need to be done on a weekend ?”

Response, Question #1: Answer: Detail 2/PS.402 notes the water service as copper which is incorrect as it is Sch 10 Stainless Steel. Shutdown requirements are specified in Specification 10 00 00 – General Conditions. Shutdown durations shall be scheduled and coordinated to minimize the impact on the Facility.

Contractor Question #2: “Also plan is incorrect in many areas telling us that the piping is cooper when it is in fact sch40 brass pipe with screwed joints. This makes a big difference in labor.

Please review bmt-dl-11. It is a brass tee that could be plugged in a couple hours. If we do this to the plan description it would be at least 2 days’ work for 2 guys. Is it permissible to plug this tee?”

Response, Question #2: Answer: bmt-dl-11 and other brass tees in the Project can be plugged as long as the plug/branch length does not exceed 1.5x the main pipe diameter.
