Text version

Statement of Work # 804657 - Multifocus Digital Radiography System SRTD routinely conducts purity examinations of grass seeds, which requires determining the presence of endosperm. This is often difficult on small seeds. X-ray imaging is becoming popular in seed testing because it allows the analyst to determine endosperm presence and overall seed health without damaging the seed. This technology would allow SRTD to produce more accurate and timely test results. In addition, it would allow SRTD to expand the ISTA scope of accreditation, and aid the seed industry in teaching imaging techniques at seed schools.

This item is uniquely suited to our needs in that it is very easy to use, is completely self-contained so that no protective equipment needs to be worn, and images can be viewed on a computer monitor. The MultiFocus system has been shown to create images that will meet SRTD’s needs for identifying pure seed. The unit is 21” x 24” x 30”, and will easily fit in the space we have available.

The below options are available with the Multifocus Digital Radiography system- X-ray system digital detector must have at least a 10x15cm field of view AND no larger than a 48 micron pixel in contact mode. X-ray system must be capable of up to 8X geometric magnification resulting in at least 8 micron pixel resolution.

X-ray tube must be capable of 50 kV AND have no larger than a 11 micron focal spot for high levels of geometric magnification. System software must include seed viability analysis and counting package.
