SCOPE OF WORK
RESURFACING OF THE LEWIS & CLARK TRAIL AT THE JAMESON ISLAND
UNIT OF BIG MUDDY NATIONAL FISH & WILDLIFE REFUGE, ARROW ROCK,
MISSOURI
1.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Introduction:
The Big Muddy National Fish & Wildlife Refuge consists over 20,000 acres spread across several different units primarily along the Missouri River floodplain between Kansas City and St. Louis, Missouri. Jameson Island Unit of Big Muddy National Fish & Wildlife Refuge (BMNFWR) is located adjacent to the town of Arrow Rock, Missouri, and the Arrow Rock State Park.
Description of Project:
The Lewis & Clark Trail is an existing trail in the Jameson Island Unit of BMNFWR, near Arrow Rock, MO, that needs restoration and resurfacing due to years of flooding in the area. The site of the project is the top of a remnant levy that is surrounded by overhanging trees. Minimal tree removal will be completed and must be discussed with BMNFWR staff prior to removal. Project equipment on the trail will be skid steer or similar equipment with the desire to keep as many trees as possible.
The project will involve removing and disposing of existing gravel and geotextile fabric, leveling and widening the site where necessary, and installing 1 ½” crushed gravel footing 6’ wide, geotextile fabric, 3/8” crushed gravel, packed with vibratory roller, as the surface material.
Existing Condition:
The existing work area is currently a graveled trail with geotextile fabric in need of repair due to years of flooding. Removal and disposal of this material is required by the contractor. See attached photos.
2.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Remove existing gravel and geotextile fabric on 0.7 miles of trail beginning at the trail head near the Big Muddy National Fish & Wildlife Refuge (BMNFWR) parking lot. Level trail area to prepare for installation of 1 ½ inch crushed stone base 6 feet wide and 6 inches deep as footing for the trail, topped by geotextile fabric, topped by 3/8-inch crushed gravel 3 inches deep. Compact the surface with a vibratory roller after installation to complete compaction.
The Contractor shall thoroughly clean the area daily, and properly dispose of all debris and surplus materials.
3.0 SCOPE OF WORK:
The Big Muddy National Fish & Wildlife Refuge invites prospective offerors to submit a quotation with a breakdown of proposal prices for the following work.
SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS:
Contractor shall provide:

A. DEMOLITION
1. The Contractor shall remove and dispose existing gravel and geotextile fabric on the trail.
B. NEW WORK
1. The Contractor shall level and prepare trail.
2. The Contractor shall install 1 ½ inch crushed gravel, six feet wide, six inches deep, as base, install a layer geotextile fabric for drainage, install 3/8 inch crushed gravel three inches deep, and compacted with a vibratory roller for first 0.7 miles of trail.
3. The Contractor shall thoroughly clean the area daily, and properly dispose of all debris and surplus materials outside the Refuge in accordance with local regulations.
4. The Contractor shall perform the final clean up.
