STATEMENT OF WORK: Lighting Replacement for Canyon Rim Visitor Center at New River Gorge National Park and Preserve

Background:

The park is nearing the end of a complete exhibit overhaul for the Canyon Rim Visitor Center, with new exhibits being installed in December 2023. The new exhibit project will replace track lighting in the exhibit areas of the visitor center, but it will not replace lighting in the entry/foyer area or the bookstore area of the visitor center. The existing lighting does not provide adequate lighting to properly illuminate the visitor center. Much of the current lighting is focused up towards the ceiling to accentuate some of the architectural design elements. This project will provide new lighting that will provide some upward lighting to accentuate architectural details but will also provide for increased lighting below to better illuminate the visitor center entry and bookstore areas. The project will also replace lights in the theater to provide better lighting in the theater, which is also in the process of being renovated with new wall and ceiling fixtures and new seating.

Objectives:

This project will replace old light fixtures with new light fixtures.

· New lighting in the visitor center entry and bookstore area will provide better illumination below while still providing some upward lighting to accentuate architectural details.

· New visitor center lighting will work with existing wiring and will aesthetically blend in and compliment the existing building architecture.

· New theater lights will fit in better with the new ceiling tiles and provide adequate lighting for the theater.

Scope:

The contractor awarded shall remove and dispose of 26 existing pendant light fixtures and 20 recessed ceiling light fixtures. Contractor shall install 26 new pendant light fixtures in the visitor center entry and bookstore, and 20 new LED recessed light fixtures in the theater. · At the completion of the project, contractor shall dispose of all waste and clean up any mess in order to leave the theater floor and seating in the same shape as it was prior to the work.
