Questions / Answers July 14, 2015

The following addresses all questions received since July 9, 2015.

Q1. For the structural steel support of the roof beams, are we permitted to use a larger base plate with additional holes. If we would encounter rebar during the installation this makes it easy to move the anchor location to avoid the rebar and still get 4 anchors in per base plate.

A1. The concept submitted is acceptable in theory; however the plate sizes shown are too large - the reason being the second two base plates anchor to an 18 inch wide concrete girder. The secondary hole locations as submitted would be on the edge of the girder and cause a concrete blow out. The first base plate is designed to sandwich the concrete slab, placed between adjacent concrete joists. The clearance is already limited between joists, the submitted design would be extremely tight for the plate on the underside of the slab. Rebar scanning is required prior to submitting structural steel shop drawings as noted on the Bid Documents. Alternative base plate layouts may be submitted with the shop drawings only after the rebar scan is complete and written approval from the Engineer of Record has been provided

Q2. On drawing D100, note 6 states "Sawcut and remove rebar." and "Locate rebar prior to cutting". I want to confirm that it is acceptable to cut the rebar.

A2. The contractor should locate the rebar as noted and avoid cutting rebar if possible. They should locate the drain penetration in the field to minimize the number of rebar cut.

Q3. Can you tell me which contractor holds the warranty on the roof.

A3. The original roofing was installed by Tremco and is warranted by Firestone for 10 years, which will expire next summer.

Q4. If a crane operator is on site but does not enter the building, are they still required to submit a security background check?

A4. Yes
