About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for an Oxygen Controller to create an ultra-pure atmosphere inside a test chamber.

The SOW specifies that the Oxygen Controller is required to provide precise control of the oxygen environment within a resonant frequency damping analyzer (RFDA) test chamber. The system must be capable of continuously measuring the atmosphere between 10-35 and 0.25 atm and adjusting the oxygen content using various carrier gases, while maintaining very low gas consumption of 1 to 13 l/h. The vendor will be responsible for calibration and troubleshooting of the system as needed. The period of performance is 10-12 weeks from award. This SOW is attached to a Special Notice for a federal contract opportunity at NASA/NSSC for the Oxygen Controller, with a detailed description of the required capabilities.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements The resonant frequency damping analyzer (RFDA) chamber requires an oxygen controller for an ultra-pure environment. Many of the materials that will be tested are carbide materials, which have a very high rate of oxidation. The system works by providing voltage across a zirconia tube, where an oxygen flow is created. By increasing and decreasing the voltage, the system allows the user to adjust how much oxygen is flowing between the tube terminals, thus allowing control of the oxygen environment of the incoming supply gas. The oxygen controller provides the unique capability of controlling the oxygen environment of a test chamber or any other sealed environment.

This is crucial when working with highly oxygen sensitive materials, where oxygen can ruin data obtained. The system is very sensitive and accurate to the environment, providing continuous measurement of the atmosphere between 10-35 and 0.25 atm, with the use of various carrier gasses. It also has a very low gas consumption of 1 to 13 l/h. It allows the user to adjust the oxygen content of the atmosphere and is also maintenance-free. The system has been used by other partners with great success and with a thorough search, there is no other system alike. The most unique capability is the control of new flowing gas, whereas other systems only recirculate to purify.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
