About this file
This document is a Brand Name Justification (BNJ) for the acquisition of Verkada Camera System by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Shared Services Center.
The BNJ recommends that NASA negotiate only with Verkada, Inc. as the sole source provider for the Verkada Camera System. The total estimated cost is not provided, but the estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is 30 days. The justification cites Verkada's seamless integration with the existing camera and visitor management systems, longer warranty, 24/7 support, upgraded technology including AI capabilities, and cost-effectiveness compared to the existing camera system as the reasons for the sole source recommendation. The impact of using another vendor would require new discussions to ensure product specifications and customizations, delaying the award and delivery timeline.

Brand Name Justification:
☒I recommend that NASA, NASA Shared Services Center negotiate only with vendors who can provide the subject brand name from Verkada, Inc. for Verkada Camera System. The estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is 30 Days ARO.
This recommendation is for the acquisition of supplies or services determined to be reasonably available from only one source/only one manufacture. Competition is impractical for the following reasons (please answer the questions below):
1. What are the reasons for soliciting only the suggested source/suggested brand name? Please provide the unique characteristics of the items or services along with the supporting rationale and the market research performed to substantiate your reason for the suggested source/brand name.
Protective Services Enterprise knowledge sharing as well as standardization of equipment and capabilities. Verkada seamlessly integrates with existing camera set up and visitor management systems.
It also provides longer warranty, 24/7//365 support, upgraded technology to include AI capabilities for 60% of the cost of existing camera system. The Verkada system allows protective services to be proactive in our physical security efforts and provides numerous security enhancements that are critical to the services we provide.
2. What is the impact to the government if another vendor/brand is used? Include any dollar, schedule, or compatibility impacts if possible.
Verkada’s camera system proves to be the most cost-effective option to expanding and upgrading the existing technology. The numerous enhancements, support and capabilities foster efficiencies and surveillance options that prove critical during manpower limitations. This system has been tested and approved. Selecting a different vendor would require new discussions to ensure product specification and customizations. New vendor negotiations and discussions will delay award and delivery. It will impact the installation schedule and implementation. Additionally, it will compound the time and efforts of the TPOCs requesting the product.
