About this file
This document is a Brand Name Justification form from NASA Shared Services Center recommending a sole-source procurement of a 45 Drives Storinator XL60 Server. The justification outlines critical requirements for a server purchase for the NASA Langley Research Center's Materials Research Lab, emphasizing the need for compatibility with existing data archiving systems. The technical rationale highlights the importance of using a 45 Drives ZFS system to ensure seamless integration with current hardware and infrastructure, facilitate efficient data backups, and support the retention of large volumes of X-ray and laboratory testing data. The estimated delivery timeline is 30 days after receipt of order, and the procurement is deemed essential to maintain workflow continuity and prevent potential postponement of critical flight-related activities.

NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION
NASA SHARED SERVICES CENTER
RECOMMENDATION AND DETERMINATION TO SOLICIT FROM ONE SOURCE
OR BRAND NAME
PICK ONE
Sole Source:
☐I recommend that NASA, NASA Shared Services Center negotiate with Vendor Name only for Enter Supply or Service to be procured. The total estimated cost of this effort is Enter Dollar amount and the estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is Date.
OR
Brand Name Justification:
☒I recommend that NASA, NASA Shared Services Center negotiate only with vendors who can provide the subject band name from 45 Drives, Ltd.. for 45 Drives Storinator XL60 Server Purchase. The estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is 30 days ARO.
This recommendation is for the acquisition of supplies or services determined to be reasonably available from only one source/only one manufacture. Competition is impractical for the following reasons (please answer the questions below):
1. What are the reasons for soliciting only the suggested source/suggested brand name? Please provide the unique characteristics of the items or services along with the supporting rationale and the market research performed to substantiate your reason for the suggested source/brand name.
Compatibility and interchangeability are essential for seamless integration with the existing DA systems and software currently supporting HTP, multiple projects, and various branches. The specified systems and vendors will ensure compatibility with the existing hardware and infrastructure at the center.
Utilizing the 45drives ZFS system will facilitate efficient backups to other ZFS-based storage solutions used for HTP data retention. Robust data backup systems are a critical component in safeguarding unique X-ray and laboratory testing data generated in large volumes. As our data storage requirements grow, it is important to maintain backup systems capable of accommodating these expanding data sets.
2. What is the impact to the government if another vendor/brand is used? Include any dollar, schedule, or compatibility impacts if possible.
Using a non-45Drives system may impact the planned workflow schedule, potentially lead to equipment downtime, and necessitate the postponement of the project or critical flight-related activities.
