About this file
This is a Brand Name Justification form from NASA Shared Services Center recommending procurement of FY25 Traefik Enterprise Licenses Renewal from Traefik Labs for the period of March 1, 2025 to February 28, 2026. The justification indicates that TraefikEE serves as NASA's primary reverse proxy solution for applications managed under the NCAPS contract and has completed Supply Chain Risk Management certification.
The justification cites several critical risks of non-renewal, including loss of bug fixes, version upgrades, and technical support, potential disruption to access of the APS application suite, need for application access layer rewrites, transition to more complex direct URLs, and loss of integrated Launchpad authentication. The document emphasizes that changing vendors could significantly disrupt access to all applications within 11 lines of business currently supported by the NCAPS contract. While exact monetary impact is not specified, the justification notes that Traefik is compatible with both on-premises and cloud infrastructure, making it essential for NASA's application infrastructure stability.

OR
Brand Name Justification:
☒I recommend that NASA, NASA Shared Services Center negotiate only with vendors who can provide the subject band name from Traefik Labs for FY25 Traefik Enterprise Licenses Renewal. estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is 3/1/2025 – 2/28/2026.
This recommendation is for the acquisition of supplies or services determined to be reasonably available from only one source/only one manufacture. Competition is impractical for the following reasons (please answer the questions below):
1. What are the reasons for soliciting only the suggested source/suggested brand name? Please provide the unique characteristics of the items or services along with the supporting rationale and the market research performed to substantiate your reason for the suggested source/brand name.
TraefikEE, selected as part of the ITIF Enterprise Container Management as a Service project, functions as NASA's primary reverse proxy solution for applications managed under the NCAPS contract. The product has successfully completed Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) certification and is documented in NASA's Agency Application Rationalization Tool (AART). Critical Risks of Non- Renewal: Loss of access to bug fixes, version upgrades, and technical support, potential disruption to access of the APS application suite, necessity for developers to undertake a complete rewrite of the application access layer, users would be required to transition to more complex direct URLs, loss of integrated Launchpad authentication, resulting in individual per-application implementations, significant increase in workload for the APS team. These implications underscore the necessity of continued maintenance for TraefikEE to ensure the stability of NASA's application infrastructure.
2. What is the impact to the government if another vendor/brand is used? Include any dollar, schedule, or compatibility impacts if possible.
We are currently managing an existing subscription. The potential impact on the government could result in a disruption of access to all applications within the 11 lines of business currently supported by the NCAPS contract. While I cannot provide an exact monetary impact should an alternative solution be implemented, I anticipate it would be significant. Additionally, Traefik is compatible with our infrastructure, both on-premises and in the cloud.
