Project PIADC, USDA Biorepository Transfer: Addition of Vario 1536-P.

General Information

1.0 Scope of Work

The Vario freezer will serve to support the Biorepository Transfer of mission critical agents from the BSL3 biocontainment space at PIADC to NBAF. As the custom racks and sleeves to transfer materials to NBAF exceed the standard heights of Freezers within PIADC, the 1536-P Vario is critical to house racks and sleeves at optimal transfer prior to the movement of such materials out of containment. This will ensure cold chain is maintained during the transfer process. This unit will serve all of PIADC during this mission.

2.0 Background

Freezers within the PIADC BSL3, are greater than 30 years old with temperature instability and are not the proper height requirement to house custom sleeves and racks necessary to move mission critical materials from PIADC to NBAF. Therefore, to ensure cold chain in maintained for mission critical materials, custom racks and sleeves must be chilled to the proper temperature ahead of transfer. Vario are the only units that meet the height and temperature requirements necessary to ensure viability of materials for transfer.
