STATEMENT OF WORK
Principal Investigator: Mahmooda Sultana
September 20, 2020
PR:
Background
Professor Moungi Bawendi and his group at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will work with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) team (PI – Mahmooda Sultana) on the Early Career Initiative titled “Autonomous multifunctional sensor platform” to develop synthesis methods for quantum dots with distinct absorption curves. MIT will deliver batches of quantum dots with distinct absorption curves to
NASA GSFC.
Scope
MIT will use various chemical synthesis methods to make quantum dots in the ranges provided by NASA GSFC. In addition, MIT shall perform initial optical and material characterization of the quantum dots before providing them to NASA-GSFC. GSFC and MIT will communicate through formal means (e.g. written statements, emails etc) for important matters. GSFC team is responsible for providing relevant specifications needed by Professor Bawendi’s group. Any work performed by the MIT team must be approved by the MIT PI, Professor Moungi Bawendi, before being delivered to NASA GSFC.
Requirements The synthesis method for uniform quantum dots of various compositions and sizes will be explored. The required bands are 484 – 488 nm 556 – 560 nm and 628 – 632 nm. The absorption peaks of the different quantum dots should be 2 nm or less apart. The quantum dots and their characterization results need to meet the NASA GSFC requirements for space applications. If MIT is uncertain about any requirements, they should ask through email or some form of written communications for record keeping.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed at a non-government site, specifically at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA. Any change of work performance needs to be reported to the GSFC team in writing prior to making the changes. NASA GSFC will review and approve the changes based on the U.S.
government requirements.
Period of Performance
This contract will cover the time period from the date of award through 1 year.
Due dates may change upon written agreements by both MIT and GSFC. If due date changes happened, NASA GSFC is required to adjust and change the new following due dates and send it to MIT partner and receive an acceptance email by MIT for the new due dates.
