About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the procurement of one LEMI-025 vector magnetometer to be used as a reference magnetometer in the 42' coil GSFC magnetic facility. The LEMI-025 is specified to meet the requirements of a high-stability, low-noise reference magnetometer for operation in a geomagnetic observatory environment. The magnetometer will be used to provide real-time, 1-second cadence input to the facility's feedback loop, enabling a low-noise null B-field environment for the calibration of flight sensors and magnetic characterization of components and satellites.

The related federal contract opportunity is a pre-solicitation notice for an "Upgraded Vector Magnetometer" requirement. NASA/NSSC intends to issue a sole source contract to KMS Technologies, the manufacturer of the compatible equipment already in use. The procurement will be for commercial items and services using FAR Part 12 and FAR Part 13 procedures. Interested organizations may submit capabilities and qualifications by 8/8/2024 for the government to determine if the procurement will be competitive.

STATEMENT OF WORK (Procurement of a LEMI-025 reference magnetometer)

1. Objective/Requirements

This SOW accompanies a purchase request for the procurement of one LEMI-025 vector magnetometer to be used as a reference magnetometer in the 42’ coil GSFC magnetic facility.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

The LEMI-025 vector magnetometer is the most stable and low noise floor in the LEMI series and is appropriate for the demanding operations of a geomagnetic observatory that require high stability and low noise floor. The LEMI-025 meets all the requirements for a reference magnetometer in the 42’ coil magnetic facility.

Specific specs include Upgraded version 025 XM Special design for high stability 3-component measurements of the Earth's magnetic field and its variations in accordance with new 1-second INTERMAGNET standard.

The instrument is intended for operation in the geomagnetic observatory conditions. The received data can be accumulated into a removable compact flash memory card up to 2 GB and/or transmitted to the external PC.

The sensor's measured full range of magnetic field is ±65,000 nT and for variations is ±3000 nT. Orthogonality error is < 30 min of arc.

3. Place of Performance

Goddard Space Flight Center, Magnetic Facility, Building 310.

4. Period of Performance Fall 2024 (or as soon as it is received) and onwards. The procured magnetometer will be utilized in B310 to provide the reference of Earth’s field real time, at 1 s cadence, as input to the facility’s feedback loop that maintains a null B-field environment within the center of the coils.

The LEMI-025 will enable a low noise null B-field environment that will highly improve the calibration of flight sensors and the magnetic characterization of flight components and satellites.
