About this file

This statement of work defines the assembly of a new 325GHz polarimeter unit by Virginia Diodes Incorporated for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. VDI will assemble a polarimeter with an RF center frequency of 325.1529 GHz, pass band of 315-336 GHz, and integrated orthomode transducer. The polarimeter is required to operate over a temperature range of -20C to +30C with a 5.5V DC bias. Deliverables include the assembled polarimeter unit, test data and reports demonstrating the unit meets specified performance goals for cross-polarization isolation and other parameters. Management and reporting requirements include regular status updates and a final data delivery package upon completion. This work relates to the federal contract opportunity number 80NSSC244350 for a 325GHz compact polarimetric receiver front end issued by NASA's Shared Services Center.

1.0 Introduction

The purpose of this document is to define the work to be performed by Virginia Diodes Incorporated (VDI) on the 325GHz Polarimeter to improve the cross-polarization isolation.

2.0 Statement of Work

1. Assemble a new 325GHz polarimeter unit Performance goals are as follows:

Parameters 325 Receiver RF Center Frequency 325.1529 GHz

RF Pass Band 315 - 336 GHz Integrated OMT Yes

LO driver power to pump mixer Optimized for best performance over temperature

Performance Temperature Range -20C to +30C DC Bias 5.5V @ ~<520mA

LO input return loss < -15 dB (TBC) Mixer Conversion Loss < -9 dB

System Noise Temperature <3000K IF Pass Band 1-11 GHz

2. Perform RF characterization measurements of the unit that includes:

a. Cross-polarization Isolation

b. Noise Temperature

c. Conversion Loss

d. 1/f noise characterization

3. Perform characterization measurements of the new 325GHz polarimeter unit over temperature from -20C to +40C in 5C increments

4. Verify non-operating temperature range of -40 to +60C

3.0 Deliverables

1. 325GHz polarimeter unit

2. Characterization data package to include cross polarization isolation, noise temperature, conversion loss, and temperature testing data.

4.0 Management, Reporting, and Documentation

4.1 Management

VDI shall designate a single individual who has full responsibility and authority to manage and administer all phases of the work specified by the contract and ensure that all objectives are accomplished within schedule and cost constraints.

VDI shall designate and identify by name a single individual who shall serve as a point of contact with the GSFC Contractors Officer’s Representative (COR) for all technical aspects of the contract. VDI’s single point of contact shall make themselves available for semi-monthly informal phone conversations with the GSFC COR in order to discuss issues relating to the contract.

4.2 Reporting

Teleconferences will be held as necessary to discuss the status of the 325GHz build and test results.

4.3 Data Delivery Package

Test data shall be delivered in an electronic format and sufficiently well documented for subsequent processing at GSFC.
