STATEMENT OF WORK for FAC

1. Objective/Requirements Earth’s ring current populations, comprised of the trapped 10-100s keV particles in the inner magnetosphere, are critically important to understanding space weather.

Understanding the evolution of ring current ion composition and dynamics has tremendous implications for space weather and the fundamental question regarding the orgin of near-Earth plasma. To achieve this understanding GSFC will build and fly an Energetic Neutral Atom (ENA) instrument on the International Space Station (ISS), the Storm Time O+ Ring current Imaging Evolution (STORIE). The instrument will continuously monitor the ring current using O and H ENAs to determine composition and Magnetic Local Time (MLT) dependence extracted by scanning over the orbit. STORIE will be accomodated on the ISS through a collaboration with the DoD Space Test Program (STP) at the Johnson Space Center (JSC). The STORIE team lead for ISS integration, T. Flatley (Flatley Aerospace Consulting), has extensive experience flying NASA payloads on STP missions (MISSE7/8, STP-H4/5/6) and will serve as SE for integration, managing the STORIE external interfaces to STP and ISS.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs The contractor shall perform the following duties:

Participate in weekly/monthly STORIE team meetings with STP Provide systems engineering support to the STORIE technical and management teams related to ISS accommodations and mission operations Support STORIE kickoff meeting and design review activities with STP Facilitate all technical and programmatic interactions between STP and the STORIE team during development, integration, and operations

3. Place of Performance FAC facility near Wilmington, NC.

4. Period of Performance Work shall be performed April 2022 through April 2026
