About this file
This document outlines specifications for a non-destructive testing resonant acoustic method system required by the USDA Forest Products Laboratory Research Work Unit 4714. The system must produce a repeatable impact force for consistent input independent of the user, and allow for a user-produced input. It must have a receiver that can be located independently from the impactor to optimize inspection. The system must record acoustic and ultrasonic frequencies from less than 1 Hz to a minimum of 40 kHz without aliasing losses, ideally extending above 60 kHz. It must be capable of analyzing recorded acoustic signals in both the time and frequency domains, including real-time signal comparison. The system must have its own computational capabilities without requiring access to the Forest Service Network, while allowing for internet access for software updates. All components must be preconfigured by the manufacturer to work together plug-and-play style, ready for use without needing to overcome hardware or software compatibility issues.

Statement of Work and Specifications USDA Forest Products Laboratory (FPL) Research Work Unit (RWU) 4714 needs to acquire a Non-Destructive Testing Resonant Acoustic Method (NDT-RAM) system meeting the following specifications:
• The NDT-RAM will produce an impact of demonstrably repeatable force and duration for consistent input independent of the user.
• The NDT-RAM will have the option for a user produced input.
• The NDT-RAM will have a receiver which can be located independent of the input impactor to optimize inspection.
• The NDT-RAM will record acoustic and ultrasonic frequencies ranging from less than 1 Hz to a minimum of 40 kHz without losses due to aliasing. Ideally, the range will extend to above 60 kHz.
• The NDT-RAM will be capable of analyzing the recorded acoustic signals in both the time and frequency domain. The analysis will include real time signal comparison.
• The NDT-RAM will have its own computational capabilities that do not require access to the Forest Service Network. It is anticipated that internet access will be need for software updates.
• The NDT-RAM components will be preconfigured to work together by the manufacturer prior to purchase. It will be sold in a “plug-and-play” state and ready to use, eliminating the need of the user to overcome hardware/hardware and hardware/software compatibility.
