STATEMENT OF WORK
I. GENERAL INFORMATION
A. Introduction We would like to perform a full transcriptome on mussels that were exposed to a 2019 oil spill in Alaska. The contractor laboratory would be performing this service including library preparation, performing the transcriptome and providing the data to Lizabeth Bowen (USGS) for analysis/write-up.
B. Background We have performed transcriptome analysis with other species (polar bear and salmon).
This data provides a very important insight into how theses species are experiencing stress. Therefore, we wanted to apply this technology to mussels.
C. Definitions/Applicable Documents
Transcriptome: the total of messenger RNA molecules expressed from the genes within an organism.
D. Scope The complete transcriptomic response to oil exposure would identify the most appropriate genes for monitoring future oil spills and perhaps differentiating between types of exposure. The number of samples to be analyzed is 95.
II. WORK REQUIREMENTS
A. Technical Requirements.
1. Describe specific work requirements and/or work products (broken down into phases or work elements, progress reports, etc.). Description must be in terms of WHAT we want done, not HOW we want to have it done.
-Extract RNA, USGS Wildlife Immunology Lab -Send 95 samples to the contractor.
-Library prep/Transcriptome analysis, conducted by the contractor.
2. Criteria for acceptance of Product or Service (how will contractor's compliance be measured).
-Results will be sent to Lizabeth Bowen, USGS, for analysis and write-up
B. Deliverables.
1. Characteristics for work product described in II.A.1., identified by name and quantity.
Contractor laboratory will perform a library prep and transcriptome analysis on 95 mussel samples that were exposed to an oil spill in Alaska.
2. Delivery dates for work/product to be completed and point of delivery.
TBD
III. SUPPORTING INFORMATION
A. Place of Performance.
Contractor’s laboratory.
B. Period of Performance: 03/01/22 through 02/14/2023
C. Government Furnished Property (GFP): list property and its value.
N/A
D. Special Considerations.
1. Key personnel qualifications (researchers, instructors, writers, project managers, programmers, etc.)
Lizabeth Bowen, PhD, USGS, PI, researcher, writer Shannon Waters, USGS, Lab Manager, initial sample prep Contractor’s Staff, researchers, project managers, sample prep and process
2. Data Rights, Safety, Environment.
All transcriptome work will be performed at the Contractor’s Laboratory. They are responsible for everything on their end.
3. Security/Privacy issues (ingress to Federal buildings, personnel clearances, computer security).
