Statement of Work

I. GENERAL INFORMATION

A. Introduction

Electronics and hardware support for the USGS-Stanford SHRIMP-RG ion microprobe laboratory. Training for USGS electronics engineer assigned to SHRIMP-RG laboratory.

B. Background

Between 1998 and 2017, electronics support for the SHRIMP-RG laboratory was provided by a full-time Electronics Technician (GS-0856). This electronics support position has proven to be necessary for reliable operation of the SHRIMP-RG laboratory for meeting the goals of mission critical projects supported by multiple programs of the USGS. In 2017, the position was vacated.

C. Definitions/Applicable Documents

SHRIMP-RG: Sensitive High Resolution Ion Microprobe Reverse Geometry

D. Scope

Provide electronics support to the SHRIMP-RG laboratory and provide training to SHRIMP- RG laboratory electronics engineer.

II. WORK REQUIREMENTS

A. Technical Requirements.

(a) Electronics support:

1. Testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and design of electronic components and control systems for the Stanford–USGS SHRIMP-RG ion microprobe and associated lab equipment with the intent to improve instrument performance and expand analytical range.

2. Development and maintenance of instrumentation, such as computer-controlled sample preparation systems, ultra-high vacuum systems, and other analytical instruments, used in research involving isotope measurements in the Stanford–USGS SHRIMP-RG laboratory.

3. System interfacing including programming and debugging of software and digital data acquisition and control systems for the Stanford–USGS SHRIMP-RG laboratory.

(b) Training:

1. Provide hands-on training to USGS electronics engineer in areas of electronics support described in II.A.a.1–3.

B. Criteria for acceptance of Product or Service (how will contractor's compliance be measured).

Compliance will be measured by the SHRIMP project chief on a task-by-task basis as well as via mid- and end-year evaluation.

C. Deliverables.

1. Completed tasks for work described in II.A.a.1–3. Training will cover major aspects of electronics support in the Stanford-USGS SHRIMP-RG laboratory. At the end of the period, the electronics engineer should be capable of independently providing support as described in II.A.a.1–3.

2. Products will be delivered as needed throughout the contract interval.

III. SUPPORTING INFORMATION

A. Place of Performance.

Stanford-USGS laboratory located at Stanford University and USGS mass spectrometry workshop and machine shop, Menlo Park, CA.

B. Period of Performance

2 years for date of Award

C. Special Considerations.

1. Data Rights, Safety, Environment

Safety to be within the purview of USGS and Stanford University while at SHRIMP- RG laboratory and USGS when at Menlo Park Campus.

2. Security/Privacy issues

Will require access to Buildings 2, 11, 4 on the USGS Menlo Park campus.
