Project Title 14-CON-SMMU-McCloud River Interpretive Signs
1.0 Purpose
Interpret the recreational opportunities, history, and cultural significance of the Upper McCloud River in an area that the public will find easily accessible.
The junction of CA Highway 89 and Fowler’s Road is the primary portal into the area used by recreationist. The Parking area at the junction is a point of orientation for visitors and is the primary parking area for pedestrians and cross-country skiers during the winter when the loop is closed to motorized use.
2.0 Scope or Mission
Provide all-weather interpretive signs that can withstand the challenging and changing environmental conditions in the Upper McCloud River area.
3.0 Period and Place of Performance
Signs and associated items will be produced at the manufactures production facilities.
4.0 Background
The McCloud River Loop is one of the more heavily visited sites in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Three very popular waterfalls along the river that are valued for scenic beauty and recreational value. There are two popular developed campgrounds that are heavily used. The McCloud River trail runs 15.2 miles along the river provided hiking opportunities to the three falls and lesser-known secluded sections of the river.
5.0 Performance Objectives
· Fabrication of four (3) porcelain enamel outdoor interpretive sign panels (design layout, including illustrations, and printing production).
· Production of three aluminum display frames for the panels (frames can attach to cross members or attach directly to post and existing stone pillars).
· Two aluminum post that will be designed to attach directly to the existing concrete foundation
6.0 Deliverables / Schedule
Deliverables
· The contractor is to complete graphic layout and design (including illustrations/photos) of four (3) interpretive panels. The Forest Service will provide sign content/context for each sign. Each sign will have its own interpretive theme and contractor will create each sign around theme.
· After initial consultation, the contractor shall prepare a brief conceptual plan for review. This design plan shall contain preliminary design layout and text. We expect 3 reviews (30%, 60%, and 90%) of this design phase via email of pdf files and phone conferences.
· The contractor is to fabricate four (3) porcelain enamel outdoor sign exhibits/panels and four display bases,
· Final designs shall be production ready and provided in the native file formats, as well as, in high resolution pdf versions. Files may be made available for download or provided on an external hard drive.
7.0 Technical specifications and special considerations
· 2 sign panels will be full-color, 48 inches high by 36 inches long.
· 1 sign panel(center) will be full-color, 48 inches high by 60 inches long
· Metal frames for each sign, frames will be mount directly to provided post and existing metal pillars and signpost. Frames will be painted in Federal Standard Brown (code 31090)
· Metal post that will attach directly to existing concrete base. Post will be painted in Federal Standard Brown (31090)
· The panels will be mounted at the same heights (The old kiosk has a slight variation to height of the panels due to materials that were used)
· The project will be finished within one year of contract award
The Forest Service will install the sign panels and accompanied mounts and accessories
8.0 Attachments
