SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE
1. Solicitation Number: 75N95023Q00414
2. Title: Laser System for Multiphoton Microscope
3. Classification Code: 66 – Instruments and Laboratory Equipment
4. NAICS Code: 334516 – Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing
5. Description:
This is NOT a solicitation for proposals, proposal of abstracts or quotations. The purpose of this notice is to obtain information regarding: (1) the availability and capability of qualified small business sources; (2) whether they are small businesses (e.g., 8(a), Veteran-owned small businesses, service-disabled Veteran-owned small businesses, HUBZone small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, and women-owned small businesses); and (3) their size classification relative to the North American Industry
Classification System (NAICS) code for the proposed acquisition. Your response to the information requested will assist the Government in determining the appropriate acquisition method, including whether a set-aside is possible.
This notice is issued to help determine the availability of qualified companies technically capable of meeting the Government requirement and to determine the method of acquisition. It is not construed as a commitment by the Government to issue a solicitation or ultimately award a contract. Responses will not be considered as proposals or quotes. No award will be made as a result of this notice. The Government will NOT be responsible for any costs incurred by the respondents to this notice. This notice is strictly for market research and information purposes only. Furthermore, it should be noted that any future solicitations that may be issued as a result of this notice, or in response to this requirement, may be issued using a different solicitation number from the one identified above.
Background: The NINDS Division of Intramural Research (DIR) is the internal research program of the NINDS and is among the largest neuroscience research centers in the world. It is home to more than 500 scientists who conduct leading-edge basic, translational, and clinical research in neuroscience, neurology, and neurosurgery research at NINDS laboratories in Bethesda, Maryland.
The Spatial Navigation and Memory Unit (SNMU) is focused on the neural basis of spatial navigation and memory, with the ultimate goal to uncover the fundamental principle of spatial cognition and the cause of related neurological disorders. The laboratory primarily focuses on the medial entorhinal cortex (MEC), which is heavily involved in spatial cognition. Using genetic mouse models, the lab is addressing several fundamental questions: (1) how is spatial information represented and computed in the
MEC circuit; (2) whether and how is spatial memory encoded in the MEC; (3) how the
MEC interacts with other brain areas to perform its function; (4) how the physiological function of the MEC is disrupted in Alzheimer's Disease.
The laboratory plans to combine in vivo two-photon imaging and two-photon optogenetics at the cellular resolution to investigate the effect of modulating different functional cell types on the MEC network response and behavior. The laboratory will require a one-box, hands-free, turn-key amplified fiber laser system with computer control and software GUI----- Monaco 1035-40-40 LX laser to achieve the above experiments. The collected data are important to understand the causal role of the MEC circuit in spatial cognition.
Purpose and Objectives: The purpose of this acquisition is to procure one (1) single-wavelength two-photon laser.
Project requirements: The Contractor shall provide one (1) a single-wavelength two-photon laser with the following specifications:
• Fundamental: 40W, 40uJ, 1MHz Options: (40W, 20uJ, 2MHz), (40W, 10uJ, 4MHz), etc.
• Beam quality to be specified as o TEM00 with M2 less than 1.2 o Beam circularity greater than 85%
• On board AOM for down selection of repetition rate from single shot to
50MHz.
• Software controlled user variable pulse width from < 350fs to >10ps.
• All fiber single pass MOPA design from seed laser to main amplifier.
• On board pulse width monitor and energy monitor.
• Single box design with no distributed seed laser or pump diodes in a separate box.
• Seeder includes mode-locking SESAM shifter for long life operation.
• Three-point kinematic mount on laser head for superior long-term stable operation in diverse ambient temperatures.
• Integrated onboard active cleaning engine to maintain the cleanliness of laser housing in harsh environments throughout the life of the laser.
• HASS/HALT testing protocol, B10 > 22,500hrs
• RS232, Ethernet, and USB interface. Remote access is possible from anywhere in the world.
• main body of the laser on the air table should fit within the following dimensions: 7.5 inch x 27 inch x 15 inch (Height x Length x width).
Delivery Date: 12 weeks after award date.
