A. PACKAGE AND INSPECT THE PRESERVATION, THE UNIT PACK AND THE PACKAGING IN ACCORDANCE WITH:
MIL-STD-2073-1, ITEM SDS SHEET, PACKING TM 38-701, AND THE APPLICABLE REGULATION PER MODE OF
TRANSPORTATION IN EFFECT AT TIME OF SHIPMENT BELOW:
• INTERNATIONAL AIR TRANSPORT ASSOCIATION (IATA) DANGEROUS GOODS REGULATIONS
• INTERNATIONAL MARITIME DANGEROUS GOODS (IMDG) CODE
• CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS (CFR) TITLE 29, TITLE 40 AND TITLE 49
• INTERSERVICE PUBLICATIONS AFMAN24-204/TM 38-250/NAVSUP PUB 505/DLAI 4145.3 (FOR MILITARY AIR
SHIPMENTS)
• JOINT MANUAL DLAR 4145.41 “PACKAGING OF HAZARDOUS MATERIAL”
B. ALL UNIT PACKS AND SHIPPING CONTAINERS SHALL BE MARKED AND LABELED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-
129 AND THE APPLICABLE HAZARDOUS MATERIAL REGULATION FOR THE MODE OF SHIPMENT.
C. HAZARDOUS MATERIAL PACKAGE TESTING SHALL BE CONDUCTED AS SPECIFIED BY NOTE “A” REGULATIONS.
D. HAZARDOUS MATERIAL SHIPMENT DOCUMENTATION
ALL SHIPMENTS SHALL BE SUPPORTED BY DOCUMENTATION ATTESTING TO THE DATE AND THE TEST RESULTS OBTAINED FROM PERFORMANCE PACKAGING TESTING. THE SHIPPER, IF NOT A SELF-CERTIFIER, SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSURING THAT THIRD PARTY SOURCES PROVIDING PERFORMANCE TESTING SERVICES ARE, IN FACT, REGISTERED WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. THE SHIPPER'S SIGNED CERTIFICATION THAT THE PACKAGED CONFIGURATION MEETS APPLICABLE REQUIREMENTS SHALL BE INCORPORATED ON THE DD FORM 250, MATERIEL INSPECTION AND RECEIVING REPORT, OR OTHER RELATED ACCEPTANCE DOCUMENT IF THE DD FORM 250 IS NOT USED. ALL CERTIFICATES AND REPORTS SHALL BE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION BY AUTHORIZED GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES FOR A PERIOD OF THREE
YEARS.

E. PACKING:
LEVEL A PACKING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED USING WOOD-CLEATED PANELBOARD SHIPPING BOXES, CONFORMING TO ASTM-D 6251, TYPE III, CLASS 2 OR NAILED WOOD BOXES CONFORMING TO ASTM-D 6880, CLASS 2.
LEVEL B PACKING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED USING EITHER FIBERBOARD BOXES, WEATHER-RESISTANT CLASS, CONFORMING TO ASTM D5118 OR TRIPLEWALL, CORRUGATED FIBERBOARD BOXES, CLASS CGWR, CONFORMING TO ASTM D5168. CLOSURE, SEALING, AND REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH SPECIFIC, APPLICABLE METHODS OF ASTM D1974, OR AS REFERENCED IN THE CONTAINER SPECIFICATION.
WHEN THE TOTAL QUANTITY TO BE SHIPPED TO THE SAME DESTINATION EXCEEDS 125 POUNDS, EXTERIOR
PACKS WITHOUT SKIDS SHALL BE PALLETIZED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-147.
