A. INSPECT THE PRESERVATION AND UNIT PACK IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-2073-1. INSPECT THE PACKING IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-1186 AND THE APPLICABLE CONTAINER SPECIFICATION.

B. APPLY PRESERVATIVE TO ALL UNPAINTED, UNPLATED EXTERNAL METALLIC SURFACES. DO NOT APPLY

ANY PRESERVATIVE TO THE INTERIOR WALLS OF WHEEL HUBS.

C. APPLY PRESERVATIVE TO ALL GREASE (ZERKS) FITTINGS.

D. SEAL ALL FITTINGS AND OPENINGS WITH CAPS/PLUGS OF APPROPRIATE SIZE.

E. PLACE MIL-PRF-121 PAPER BETWEEN WOOD BLOCKING AND AXLE, SECURE TO BLOCKING USING TAPE.

SEE TABLE 1 FOR BARRIER SIZES AND LOCATIONS.

F. SECURE BLOCKING TOGETHER AND TO THE BASE OF THE CONTAINER USING NAILS CONFORMING TO

ASTM-F1667, SEE FIGURES 1, 3 – 5 FOR BLOCKING SIZES AND ORIENTATION.

G. BRACKETS SHALL BE FABRICATED FROM COMMERCIAL GRADE PLATE STEEL. BRACKETS SHALL BE FORMED BY BENDING AND BE PAINTED, PLATED OR PRESERVED USING MIL-PRF-16173, GR 4. ATTACH BRACKETS TO BLOCKING USING ITEM J IN TABLE 1. SEE FIGURES 2, 4 & 5 FOR BRACKET DRAWINGS

AND PLACEMENT.

H. ALL HARDWARE SHALL BE ZINC PLATED AND CONFORM TO ASTM-F2329. SEE TABLE 1 AND FIGURES 4 &
