A. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS:
1. INSPECT PRESERVATION AND UNIT PACK IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-2073-1D.
2. INSPECT THE PACKING IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-1186 AND THE APPLICABLE CONTAINER
SPECIFICATION.
B. CLEAN AND DRY ITEM BY ANY SUITABLE PROCESS BEFORE APPLICATION OF PACKAGING MATERIALS.
C. THE UNIT CONTAINER IS THE SHIPPING CONTAINER.
D. APPLY PRESERVATIVE TO ALL BARE FERROUS METAL SURFACES.
E. APPLY WRAPS BETWEEN THE MOUNTING BOARDS (ITEMS A AND B , PAGES 2 THROUGH 4) AND THE
ENGINE BLOCK. USE THE MOUNTING BOARD AS A TEMPLATE TO MAKE HOLES IN THE WRAPS TO
ALLOW THE BOLTS TO PASS THROUGH. AFTER THE ENGINE BLOCK IS SECURED TO THE MOUNTING
BOARD, FOLD THE WRAPS TO COMPLETELY ENCLOSE THE ITEM. SECURE WITH TAPE.
F. APPLY ONE PIECE OF CUSHIONING, APPROXIMATE SIZE: 27 X 19 X 1/4, TO THE END OF THE WRAPPED
ENGINE BLOCK (SEE PAGE 4). DRAPE ONE PIECE OF CUSHIONING, SIZE: 72 X 24 X 1/4 OVER THE TOP OF THE WRAPPED ENGINE BLOCK TO PREVENT PUNCTURING THE BARRIER MATERIAL (STEP 5-H) WITH
THE ITEM. SECURE CUSHIONING WITH TAPE.
G. APPLY ONE PIECE OF CUSHIONING, APPROXIMATE SIZE: 27 X 19, TO THE END OF THE WRAPPED
ENGINE BLOCK (SEE PAGE 4). APPLY ONE PIECE OF CUSHIONING, APPROXIMATE SIZE: 28 X 19, TO
THE OPPOSITE END (SEE PAGE 4). SECURE CUSHIONING WITH TAPE.
