A. INSPECT THE PRESERVATION AND UNIT PACK IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-2073-1. INSPECT THE

PACKING IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-1186 AND THE APPLICABLE CONTAINER SPECIFICATION.

B. DURING THE CLEANING PROCESS, THE PRESERVATIVE OIL SHALL NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE

EXPOSED MACHINE SURFACES UNLESS CONTAMINATION HAS OCCURRED.

C. INTERIOR PRESERVATION (TO BE PERFORMED ONLY IF THE PRESERVATION HAD NOT ALREADY BEEN

ACCOMPLISHED AT TIME OF MANUFACTURING, INSPECTION SHALL BE MADE TO ENSURE THAT

ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN PROPERLY DRAINED): REMOVE PLUG AND FILL AXLE ASSEMBLY TO OPERATING

LEVELWITH LUBRICANT. ROTATE INTERNAL MECHANISM SUFFICIENTLY TO PROVIDE COMPLETE

COVERAGE OF ALL INTERNAL SURFACES. DRAIN ASSEMBLY AND REPLACE PLUG.

D. EXTERIOR PRESERVATION: APPLY TO BARE METALLIC SURFACES.

E. WRAP EXTERIOR PRESERVED SURFACES AND SECURE WRAPS USING TAPE.

F. FOR FABRICATION AND PLACEMENT, SEE SKETCHES ON PAGES 2 AND 3.

G. FOR EASE OF PACKING ITEM, IT IS SUGGESTED TO FOLLOW PROCEDURES AS WRITTEN BELOW. PLACE PADS “A” (2 EACH) LENGTHWISE INTO DEPTH OF BOX. PAD “B” SHALL BE PLACED BETWEEN PADS “A” INTO BASE OF BOX. PLACE ITEM INTO CONTAINER. SLIDE PADS “C” (2 EACH) INTO APPROPRIATE

POSITION IN ACCORDANCE WITH SKETCH ON PAGE 3. PLACEMENT OF PAD “D” WILL REQUIRE

REPOSITIONING OF THE YOKE ON THE ITEM TO ENSURE PACKAGE COMPACTNESS AS SHOWN IN SKETCH ON PAGE 3. PLACE PAD “E” ON TOP OF PAD “D”. CLOSURE SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH CONTAINER

SPECIFICATION.

H. PLACE BOXED ITEM INTO BAG AND CLOSE BY HEAT SEAL.

LEVEL A PACKING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED USING WOOD-CLEATED PANELBOARD SHIPPING BOXES, CONFORMING TO ASTM-D6251, TYPE III, CLASS 2 OR NAILED WOOD BOXES CONFORMING TO ASTM-

D6880, CLASS 2.

LEVEL B PACKING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED USING FIBERBOARD BOXES, WEATHER RESISTANT,

CONFORMING TO ASTM-D5118 OR TRIPLEWALL, CORRUGATED FIBERBOARD BOXES, CLASS 2,

CONFORMING TO ASTM-D5168. CLOSURE, SEALING, AND REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE IAW SPECIFIC, APPLICABLE METHODS OF ASTM-D1974 OR AS REFERENCED IN CONTAINER SPECIFICATION.

WHEN TOTAL QUANTITY TO BE SHIPPED TO THE SAME DESTINATION EXCEEDS 125 POUNDS,

EXTERIOR PACKS WITHOUT SKIDS SHALL BE PALLETIZED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-147.

1. FABRICATE PADS “A” (2 EACH) USING VARIETY TW, AS SHOWN ON PAGE 4.

2. FABRICATE DIECUT “B”, USING B1, THICKNESS 1-1/8; B2, USING THICKNESS 2-1/4; AND A GOOD

QUALITY WATERPROOF ADHESIVE.

3. FABRICATE DIECUT “C”, USING C1, THICKNESS 1-1/8; C2, USING THICKNESS 1-1/8; AND A GOOD

QUALITY WATERPROOF ADHESIVE.

4. FABRICATE DIECUT “D” TO THICKNESS 2-1/4 INCH, USING A GOOD QUALITY WATERPROOF

ADHESIVE AS SHOWN ON PAGE 4.

5. FABRICATE PAD “E” USING VARIETY TW, AS SHOWN ON PAGE 4.
