1. PRESERVATION.

1.1 Batteries (FSC 6135), except Lithium. Batteries (FSC 6135), except

Lithium shall be preserved in accordance with ASTM D3951.

1.2 Batteries (FSC 6140), except NI-CAD Batteries. Batteries (FSC 6140), except NI-CAD Batteries shall be preserved in accordance with PPP-B-140. In addition to the preservation requirements of PPP-B-140, all transportation regulated shipments of these batteries, both domestic and international, must also comply with the additional packaging requirements of the International

Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Technical Instructions, the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) CFR Title 49, or the Depatment of Defense’s (DOD)

TM 38-250, for the applicable mode of transportation.

1.3 Batteries, Lithium. Batteries, Lithium shall be preserved in accordance with CECOM Special Packaging Instruction AG0000066. In addition to the pres-ervation requirements specified in AG0000066, all transportation regulated shipments of these batteries, both domestic and international, must also comply with the additional packaging requirements of the International Mari-time Organization’s International Maritime Dangerous Good (IMDG) Code, the

International Civil Aviation Organization’s Technical Instructions, the

Department of Transportation CFR Title 49, or the DOD’s TM 38-250, for the applicable modes of transportation.

1.4 Batteries, Sealed, NI-CAD. Batteries, Sealed, NI-CAD shall be preserved in accordance with CECOM Packaging Instruction AG00000196. In addition to the preservation requirements of AG00000196, all transportation regulated shipments of these batteries, both domestic and international, must also comply with the additional packaging requirements of the International

Maritime Organization’s IMDG Code, the ICAO Technical Instructions, CFR Title

49, or TM 38-250, for the applicable modes of transportation.

1.5 Batteries, Vented, NI-CAD. Batteries, Vented, NI-CAD shall be preserved in accordance with CECOM Special Packaging Instruction AG00000071. In addition to the preservation requirements of AG00000071, all transportation regulated shipments of these batteries, both domestic and international, must also comply with the additional packaging requirements of the

International Maritime Organization’s IMDG Code, the ICAO Technical

Instructions, CFR Title 49, or TM 38-250, for the applicable modes of transportation.

1.6 Bearings. Bearings shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-DTL-197.

1.7 Cable and Cord Assemblies. Cable and Cord Assemblies shall be preserved in accordance with NAS 3417 or NAS 3426, as appropriate.

1.8 Cable, Cord, and Wire, Electric. Electric Cable, Cord, and Wire shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-DTL-12000.

1.9 Capacitors. Capacitors shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-DTL-

39028.

1.10 Circuit Card Assemblies and Printed Circuit Cards. Circuit Card

Assemblies (CCAs) and Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs)) shall be preserved in accordance with CECOM Special Packaging Instruction AG00000601.

1.11 Connectors, Electrical and Fiber Optic. Electrical and Fiber Optic

Connectors shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-DTL-55330.

1.12 Crystal, Units Quartz. Crystal Units, Quartz shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-PRF-3098.

1.13 Data/Drawings/Technical Manuals (Drafts). Packaging shall be in accord-ance with ASTM D3951.

1.14 Electron tubes (excluding Klystron Tubes). Electron tubes (excluding

Klystron Tubes) shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-DTL-75, Packaging

Group 23 or 24, as appropriate.

1.15.1 Electrostatic Discharge Sensitive (ESDS). Electronic components that are ESDS shall be preserved using MIL-STD-2073-1 specialized preservation code “GX”. Place the unit pack in a fiberboard box conforming to ASTM D5118 and close the box in accordance with ASTM D1974.

1.15.2 Non-ESDS. Electronic components that are non-ESDS shall be preserved using MIL-STD-2073-1, Method 41. Place the heat-sealed bag into a fiberboard box conforming to ASTM D5118. Close the box in accordance with ASTM D1974. If the weight of the component exceeds 10 pounds or any dimension exceeds 12 inches, preserve the component in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1, Method 42.

1.16 Equipment, Subassemblies, and Components (not covered by specifications in 1.1 through 1.12, 1.14, 1.15, and 1.17 through 1.36). Equipment, Sub-assemblies, and Components (not covered by specifications in 1.1 through

1.12, 1.14, 1.15, and 1.17 through 1.37) shall be individually unit packed in accordance with methods 10, 30, 40, or 50, as defined and specified in

MIL-STD-2073-1.

1.17 Filters, Hi-Pass, Lo-Pass, Band-Pass, and Band-Suppression. Filters, Hi-Pass, Lo-Pass, Band-Pass, and Band-Suppression shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1.

1.18 Gauges, Pressure and Vacuum. Gauges, Pressure and Vacuum shall be preserved in accordance with ASME B40.100.

1.19 Generators. Generators shall be preserved in accordance with CECOM

Special Packaging Instructions AG00000606 or AG00000607, as applicable.

1.20 Hardware. Hardware shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1.

1.21 Hoses. Hoses shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-H-775.

1.22 Microcircuits (excluding CCA/PCBs). Microcircuits (excluding CCA/PCBs) shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1.

1.23 Modules (excluding CCA/PCBs and Microcircuits). Modules (excluding CCA/

PCBs and Microcircuits) shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1.

1.24 Printed Wiring Boards (excluding CCA/PCBs). Printed Wiring Boards

(excluding CCA/PCBs) shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-PRF-31032.

1.25 Resistors. Resistors shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-DTL-

39032.

1.26 Semiconductor Devices. Semiconductor Devises shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-DTL-19491.

1.27 Shelters, With or Without Equipment. Shelters, With or Without Equip-ment shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-DTL-55507.

1.28 Switches. Switches shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-DTL-28786.

1.29 Switches, Waveguide. Switches, Waveguide shall be preserved in accord-ance with MIL-DTL-28786.

1.30 Synchros, Resolvers, and Servo Motors. Synchros, Resolvers, and Servo

Motors shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1.

1.31 Tools. Tools shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1.

1.32 Tool Sets, Shop Sets, and Kits. Tool Sets, Shop Sets, and Kits shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1.

1.33 Transformers and Inductors. Transformers and Inductors shall be pres-erved in accordance with MIL-PRF-27.

1.34 Vehicles, Wheeled. Vehicles, Wheeled shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-STD-3003.

1.35 Waveguide Assemblies, Flexible or Waveguides, Rigid.

1.35.1 Waveguides 36 inches or less in length shall be individually unit packed in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1, Method 41. Each unit pack shall be placed in a supplementary container conforming to PPP-B-566, PPP-B-676, PPP-

T-495 or ASTM D5118. However, assemblies over 12 inches in length shall be restricted to a supplementary container conforming to ASTM D5118.

1.35.2 Waveguides over 36 inches in length shall be individually unit packed in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1, Method 41, as follows: The open ends of each assembly shall be a barrier conforming to MIL-PRF-131, Class 1. This barrier shall extend at least 6 inches from each and and secured with tape conforming to PPP-T-66, Type 1. Alternately, the openings shall be sealed with cover plates or caps and plugs secured with tape conforming to PPP-T-66, Type 1.

1.36 Waveguide Assemblies, Rigid. Waveguide Assemblies, Rigid shall be unit packed in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1, Method 52. The inner container shall conform to PPP-B-566 or PPP-B-676. The outer container shall conform to ASTM D5118 and closed in accordance with ASTM D1974.

2. PACKING. Packing shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1 based on the general guidelines for the selection of levels of packing provided in Table

1, except shelters which shall be packed in accordance with MIL-DTL-55507.

3. MARKING. In addition to any special marking required by the contract or order (project codes, etc.), all unit packs, intermediate packs, and exterior shipping containers shall be legibly and durably marked in accordance with

MIL-STD-129.

4. REQUIREMENTS FOR WOOD PACKAGING MATERIAL. All CONUS and OCONUS shipments utilizing wood packaging material, such as pallets, dunnage, crating, packing blocks, drums, cases, load boards, pallet collars, and skids, shall meet the

International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures, ISPM 15, entitled

“Regulation of Wood Packaging Material in International Trade”.
