About this file
This document is a Justification for Sole Source (SAP <$150k) for a specialized pressure-sensitive tape manufactured by 3M. The specific product is a white, 2-inch wide by 60-yard long tape with exceptional temperature resistance ranging from -65° to 450°F, designed for glass, cotton, and hot work areas. The tape features a silicone adhesive with high temperature resistance, strong adhesion, and abrasion-resistant backing, with technical specifications including 38 oz./in. width adhesion to steel, 146 lbs./in. width tensile strength, and 6.4 mils total thickness.
The procurement is through PLUSSTAR, INC. as the dealer, with a required delivery date of 09-16-25. The document emphasizes that this specific tape is the only one approved for use with HOTWORK in PSNS (Puget Sound Naval Shipyard) and must be approved by C/106. The sole source justification is based on the tape's unique proprietary characteristics, specifically its high-performance properties and specialized application in high-temperature environments.
