TRASH COMPACTOR CAN RETAINER ASSEMBLY
MANFACTURER TECHNICAL DATA
Assembly will consist of the following with all weldments, assembly and final machining accomplished.
1 each Items 24, 25 and 26, including 4 each item 41 and 42
8 each Items 27, 35, 72 and 117
4 each Items 33, 34, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 81, 82 and 116
5 each Item 115
2 each Item 48
Per ERH577-3401A5, manufacturer shall offer Items 24-2, 25-3, and 26-2 using QQ-S-766, Type 304 SS.
(MIL-S-867, Cl. III (Note: material is not available in small quantities)
Per ERH577-3401A35, the locating dimension for the tab on the RH Door (PN24) is changed from 19.
115-19.135 to 18.990-19.010 inches.
Note that on sheet 26 of the drawing, A tolerance study was performed to verify the extent of the interference. By design, there was a 0.105'' interference with the bottom edge of the tab on PN 24 and slot on PN 25. The function of the tab is to push the filled can out of the Housing, PN 25, when the door opened. To ensure either edge of the tab and slot interface and do not interfere with each other, the locating dimension of the tab must be between 18.96'' and 19.03''. The use of 18.99-19.01 centers the tab within the slot and maintains the existing positional tolerance band of 0.02'' inches.
For Item 42, the changed dimension (1.84'') was 1.88'', R1.40 + .44''= 1.84'', dimension is redundant. It was changed to reference dimension. NNS engineering finds the reported condition technically acceptable and has developed ER678D-E14-30172-A to document the technical acceptance of the condition.
Manufacturer will manufacture the door in accordance with HII-NNS engineering direction regarding the following items:
Part Number (PN) H5773401-34, Yoke, will not line up with mating hole in PN H5773401-41, Clamp Pivot. PN-34 comes in contact with the 1/4" fillet weld that attaches PN -41 to PN H5773401-24-1, RH Door. The distance from the mounting surface of PN -41 to the center hole is 0.75" (see sheet 15, zone 3D). The distance from the center hole to outer edge of PN-34 is 0.62" (see sheet 15, zone 5C). The weld size is 0.25" (see sheet 27, zone 6G). This results in the following dimensional stack up: 0.75 - 0.62 - 0.25 = - 0.12 (interference). This problem applies to all four locations on PN -24-1. * * To resolve this issue the vendor shall cut a chamfer into the inside edges of PN -34 (QTY:4) around the full 0.62" radius until pin holes align and the joint can move fully and freely. The maximum allowable chamfer is 0.20" x 45º.
This will reduce the cross-sectional area of the part. However, the area of reduction does not experience any loading during normal operations.
Therefore, there is no reduction in strength for this joint. HII-NNS Engineering finds reported condition technically acceptable, and the design yard has documented the reported condition on ER H577- 3401A44C.
Manufacturer shall change the .12'' Radius to a .12'' x 45-degree Chamfer on the outside corners only for PNs H5773401-25-3, 24-2, and 26-2. This will relieve all interferences between the hinges and the welds as reported on ER 678D-E14-30296-A.
