A. PRESERVATION AND PACKAGING SHALL BE INSPECTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-2073-1 AND ANY

APPLICABLE CONTAINER SPECIFIATIONS.

B. INTERNAL PRESERVATION: FILL KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY TO OPERATING LEVEL WITH OIL, ROTATE INTERNAL MECHANISM SUFFICIENTI.Y TO ASSURE COMPLETE COVERAGE OF ALL INTERNAL SURFACES. DRAIN ASSEMBLY.

(ASSEMBLIES FILLED WITH SPECIFIED OIL AND TESTED DURING BREAK-IN TEST NEED NOT BE REFILLED, INSPECTION SHALL BE MADE TO ASSURE ASSEMBLIES HAVE BEEN PROPERLY DRAINED.)

C. SEAL ALL PORTS WITH CAPS OR PLUGS OF APPROPRIATE SIZE.

D. APPLY PRESERVATIVE TO EACH OF THE EIGHT STUDS.

E. FOR FABRICATION AND PLACEMENT OF CUSHIONING SEE SKETCHES ON PAGES 2 AND 3.

F. CLOSE CONTAINER IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM-D1974, METHOD 2B6.

G. CLOSE BAG BY HEAT SEALING.

H. THE UNIT CONTAINER SHALL ALSO BE MARKED ON THE TOP AND ONE SIDE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-129.

SPECIAL MARKINGS, "REUSABLE CONTAINER AND CUSHIONING, DO NOT DESTROY. OPEN ALONG TAPE SEAMS, AS

NEEDED, USING SHALLOW-BLADE KNIFE."

I. PACKING:

LEVEL A PACKING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED USING WOOD-CLEATED PANELBOARD SHIPPING BOXES, CONFORMING TO ASTM-D 6251, TYPE III, CLASS 2 OR NAILED WOOD BOXES CONFORMING TO ASTM-D 6880, CLASS 2.

LEVEL B PACKING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED USING FIBERBOARD BOXES, WEATHER RESISTANT, CONFORMING TO ASTM-D 5118 OR TRIPLEWALL, CORRUGATED FIBERBOARD BOXES, CLASS 2, CONFORMING TO ASTM-D 5168.

CLOSURE, SEALING, AND REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE IAW SPECIFIC, APPLICABLE METHODS OF ASTM-D 1974, OR AS

REFERENCED IN THE CONTAINER SPECIFICATION.

WHEN THE TOTAL QUANTITY TO BE SHIPPED TO THE SAME DESTINATION EXCEEDS 125 POUNDS, EXTERIOR PACKS

WITHOUT SKIDS SHALL BE PALLETIZED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-147.
