Requirements / Specification Document
TITLE: 8-Channel Isolation Amplifier
Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group:
Communications Technology Laboratory Radio Frequency Technology Division Superconductive Electronics Group (672.04)
General Statement of Need:
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), along with the Superconductive Electronics Group (672.04) provides Josephson Arbitrary Waveform Synthesizer (JAWS) systems as a standard reference instrument (SRI). As part of disseminating an SRI JAWS system, we require one (1) isolation amplifier with at least 8 independent optically isolated channels. This amplifier will be used to provide a low-frequency (<1 MHz) current bias to multiple Josephson junction arrays. Because the output voltage of these arrays is added in series, the channels must be superbly isolated from each other and the system ground. We propose to purchase an instrument that is identical to that used in prototype SRI JAWS systems at NIST; items from other manufacturers cannot be used without requiring both hardware and software modifications, and these modifications would create significant additional costs to the government, and potentially harm programmatic requirements if unanticipated functional changes in performance occur due to the hardware and software modifications.
Items and Ancillary Services:
Item 1: 8-Channel Isolation Amplifier Quantity: 1 EA Specifications: 1.1 Shall have at least 8 independent channels
1.2 Each channel isolated output shall be able to
supply at least +/- 15 mA of current to a load of 15 ohms at an input voltage less than +/- 1.5 V.
1.3 Each channel output shall be independently
optically isolated from the input and each other.
This includes all parts of the output circuit: signal, power, and ground.
1.3.a. Channel-to-channel leakage resistance shall be > 1 gigaohm
1.3.b Channel-to-channel leakage capacitance shall be < 1 nanofarad
1.3.c. Channel-to-ground leakage resistance shall be > 1 gigaohm
1.3.d Channel-to-ground leakage capacitance shall be < 1 nanofarad
1.4 Each channel isolated output shall be able to
supply at least +/- 15 mA of current to a load of 15 ohms at an input voltage less than +/- 1.5 V.
1.5 Each channel shall have a bandwidth of DC to > 1
MHz
1.6 Will not use batteries
1.7 Powered using a single standard IEC320 C14 male
inlet which is integrated into the unit and standard US wall power (120 V, 60 Hz).
1.8 Input shall use a single dsub-25 connector, with
channel 1 signal/ground on pins 1/14 (respectively), channel 2 on pins 2/15, channel N on pins N/13+N
1.9 Output shall use a single dsub-25 connector, with
isolated channel 1 signal/ground on pins 1/14 (respectively), isolated channel 2 on pins 2/15, isolated channel N on pins N/13+N
1.10 Shall be rack-mountable and less than or equal to
2U in height
