SPECIFICATIONS

1.0 Specifications Description:

Gas Pycnometer

Quantity: 1

Unit Type: Each

Minimum Requirements:

• A gas pycnometer instrument is required for density measurement of biochar and similar samples, which are solid phase and porous (as opposed to gas or liquids).

• The instrument must be automated with respect to sample analysis and data collection, requiring little-to-no manual input from the user, beyond instrument/sample setup.

• Instrument must be compatible with samples that have consistency of granules, small fragments, of very fine powders.

• Instrument must be able to measure samples occupying physical volume on the order of magnitude between 10 to 100 cubic centimeters.

• Instrument must have precise temperature control through thermoelectric (Peltier) or comparable means.

• Instrument must come with regulators for inert gas measurement environment (for example, helium, nitrogen, argon); regulator must be two-stage with isolation valve and compatibility with off-the-shelf fittings (for example, Swagelok)

• Instrument must come with all necessary software for collecting, analyzing, and exporting measurement data, and any associated licenses and cables for interfacing with IT hardware.

• An instrument that meets this requirement is the Ultrapyc 5000, manufactured (in the United States); brand name.
