About this file
This document contains specifications for a cryogenic ball mill and details of a related federal contract opportunity. The specifications call for a cryogenic mill capable of grinding horticultural samples to a fineness of under 10 micrometers while operating at cryogenic temperatures using liquid nitrogen. The mill must use a closed liquid nitrogen system, be able to operate both cryogenically and at ambient conditions for both wet and dry grinding, and allow processing of samples for heavy metals analysis using metal-free grinding jars. Key requirements include a final fineness under 10 micrometers, the ability to process sample sizes up to 20 milliliters, storage of up to nine grinding methods, and grinding jars of 25 and 50 milliliter capacity. The related federal contract opportunity is for a cryogenic ball mill to be located in Parlier, California, issued by the Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service Field Research Implementation and Information Delivery Pacific West Area.

Cyrogenic Ball Mill
Require a cryogenic mill for the grinding / homogenization of horticultural commodities prior to the analysis for agrochemical residues. The mill needs to operate at cryogenic temperatures (i.e. feed material frozen with liquid nitrogen) and be able to reduce horticultural samples to a fineness of under 10 µm. Use a closed LN2 system, to reduce user exposure to liquid nitrogen, can operate both cryogenically and under ambient conditions (both wet and dry grinding) and can be used to process samples for heavy metals analysis (metal free grinding jars).
SPECIFICATIONS: Cryogenic Mill
· Final fineness < 10 µm
· Sample size: up to 20 mL
· Up to 9 storable grinding methods
· 25 and 50 mL grinding jars.
· Grinding at up to 30 Hz (vibrational frequency)
