About this file

This document outlines specifications for a multipurpose sampler and autosampler to be installed on an Agilent 8890 GC at the Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service in Hood River, Oregon. The specifications require a Gerstel Multipurpose Sampler equipped with a thermal desorption unit, dynamic headspace sampler, 3 tray holder, and liquid cooled tray. The autosampler must be capable of desorbing and cryofocusing sorbent traps, sampling headspace from vials onto traps, and functioning as a liquid autosampler. It must control vial and trap temperatures from -10 to 100 degrees Celsius, optimize sample introduction through split flow control, and rapidly cool and heat traps from -170 to over 300 degrees Celsius. The autosampler must also handle sorbent traps and syringes of various sizes to sample from vials and inject into a GC inlet for analysis. The control software of the devices must integrate with Agilent Masshunter. Solicitation 12905B23Q0143 seeks to procure this multipurpose sampler and autosampler for installation at the specified location.

Text version

We require a new Gerstel Multipurpose Sampler equipped with -Thermal Desorption Unit -Dynamic Headspace Sampler -regular 3 tray “tray holder

- a liquid cooled tray. The unit will be installed on an Agilent 8890 GC and will require the appropriate adaptor. Equipment must be installed by seller. The unit must adapt to an autosampler

We require a versatile autosampler that can desorb and cryofocus sorbent traps, sweep headspace from headspace vials onto sorbent traps, and work as a liquid autosampler for gas liquid chromatography. The headspace vial sampler must be capable of chilling sample vials to -10 C, incubate sample vials up to 100 C, control sorbent trap temperature while sampling (as well as any dead spaces to limit sample loss), and control and monitor sweep gas flow during the process. The cryofocusing unit must be capable controlling temperature and gas split flows at the sampler and in the GC inlet to optimize sample introduction. The cryfocusing unit must be capable of lowering focusing temperature to -170 C while capable of both cooling the trap to 20 C and heating the trap to over 300 C at a rapid, programmed rate. Likewise, sample introduction into the GC inlet must occur at a rapid rate–from cryo temperatures to max inlet temperatures (300 C) within seconds to assure sharp chromatography. The autosampling unit must be capable of carrying sorbent traps as well as operating sampling syringes of multiple sizes in other configurations. It also must be capable of sampling from small sample vials using these syringes and injecting the sample into a standard lined GC inlet for GLC. Finally, the devices must be capable of being mounted on a 8890 Agilent GC and the devices’ control software must be capable of integrating with Agilent Masshunter software
