Requirements / Specification Document
TITLE: WR-6 Extender Heads
Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group:
Communications Technology Laboratory Radio Frequency Technology Division Guided Wave Electromagnetics Group (672.01)
General Statement of Need:
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)/Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL) enables science and industry by providing essential measurement methods, instrumentation, and standards to support all phases of communications technology development. As part of this effort, the RF Technology Division of the Communications Technology Laboratory develops and maintains traceability paths for scattering parameter and power calibrations. In order to pursue these activities, the RF technology division requires vector-network-analyzer frequency-extender heads and calibration kits for various rectangular waveguide bands.
Items and Ancillary Services:
Item 1: WR-6.5 Extender Head Quantity: 2 Specifications:
1.1 Shall extend the frequency range of S-parameter and wave-parameter measurements for PNA-X and ZVA vector network analyzers.
1.2 Shall have an operating frequency range that spans at least 110 GHz to 170 GHz.
1.3 Shall have a WR-6.5 test port flange. Test port flange shall be a precision flange that includes both an anti-cocking feature and bores for slip-fit fine-alignment dowels.
1.4 Shall have both transmit and receive capabilities.
1.5 Shall have an integrated manually adjustable attenuator with a minimum attenuation of 0 dB and a maximum attenuation of at least 25 dB.
1.6 Shall have an output power of at least +9 dBm across the entire band from 110 GHz to 170 GHz.
1.7 Shall have a minimum dynamic range of at least 100 dB across the entire band from 110 GHz to 170 GHz.
1.8 Shall have a typical power magnitude stability equal to or better than ± 0.3 dB (10 Hz IFBW after 1 h warm up).
1.9 Shall have a typical phase stability equal to or better than ± 4 degrees (10 Hz IFBW after 1 h warm up).
1.10 Shall have a typical raw coupler directivity of at least 25 dB across the entire band from 110 GHz to 170 GHz.
1.11 Shall have a typical test port input power damage limit of at least 20 dBm.
1.12 Shall include one (1) cable set for each extender head. Cable set shall include at least (1) RF, (1) LO and (2) IF cables for each extender head. The length of the cables shall be 1.2 m or 48 inches.
Item 2: WR-6.5 Calibration Kit Quantity: 1 Specifications: 2.1 All calibration kit standards shall have WR-6.5 test port flanges and operate in the frequency range from 110 GHz to 170 GHz.
2.2 Shall include at least one flush short circuit standard.
2.3 Shall include at least one fixed matched load standard with precision flange that includes both an anti-cocking feature and bores for slip-fit fine-alignment dowels.
2.4 Shall include at least one quarter-wave shim with bores for slip-fit fine-alignment dowels.
