About this file

This specification sheet outlines requirements for a porosity and roughness tester instrument. The instrument must be capable of automated measurements of roughness and porosity/air resistance according to standardized test methods, including TAPPI T538, TAPPI T460, and TAPPI T547. It must report roughness in Sheffield units, and air permeance or porosity measurements in equivalent Gurley seconds (both oil and mercury methods), Sheffield porosity, and engineering units. The instrument must include a recording device for printing or exporting data, and professional on-site installation is required.

The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number 1104021 from the Department of Agriculture Forest Service seeking a porosity tester meeting these specifications. The opportunity type is a special notice. The instrument must test paper and paperboard samples for high and low pressure porosity and surface roughness according to industry standards.
