1. SET UP. SAVE A LL CAPS, PLUG AND HARDWARE FOR RE-INSTALLATION. ENGINE IS EQUIPPED WITH A 24 VOLT
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. UNBOLT ENGINE OIL FILTER FROM FRONT OF ENGINE AND SECURE IN A SAFE LOCATION. (SEE
PG 10-12)
2. LUBRICATION SYSTEM PREPARATION.
DRAIN ENGINE OIL, ONCE DRAINED CLOSE DRAIN VALVE. REMOVE ENGINE OIL FILTER, DRAIN, AND RE-INSTALL. ADD 20 QTS OF MIL-PRF-21260 GRADE 15W40 CRANKCASE PRESERVATION OIL INTO ENGINE THROUGH ENGINE OIL FILL.
3. COOLING SYSTEM PREPARATION.
REMOVE PLUG FROM OIL COOLER HOUSING AND INSTALL VALVE AND HOSE ASSEMBLY INTO BOTTOM ON ENGINE OIL COOLER. ENSURE VALVE IS CLOSED. USE AN EXPANSION TANK CAPABLE OF 2 QT CAPACITY (MINIMUM) WITH ¾” AND 5/15” BARBED FITTINGS. PLACE TANK HIGHER THAN ENGINE. CONNECT THERMOSTAT HOUSING OUTLET TO COOLANT PUMP INLET WITH SUITABLE TUBE OR HOSING. (SEE PG 10-12) ADD MIL-PRF-16173 GRADE 5 COOLING SYSTEM
PRESERVATIVE TO COOLING SYSTEM THROUGH EXPANSION TANK UNTIL TANK IS HALF FULL.
4. AIR SYSTEM PREPARATION.
DISCONNECT AIR TUBES INTO TURBOCHARGER AND BETWEEN TURBOCHARGER AND ENGINE. ATOMIZE SPRAY PRESERVATIVE OIL (MIL-PRF-21260, MIL-PRF-46002, OR MIL-PRF-32033) ONE OZ INTO AIR INTAKE OF TURBOCHARGER, ONE OZ INTO OUTLET OF TURBOCHARGER, AND TWO OZ INTO AIR TUBE GOING TO ENGINE. RECONNECT ALL AIR
TUBES AND SEAL OPENINGS WITH TAPE SAE-AMS-T-22085, TYPE IV.
FUEL SYSTEM PREPARATION.
5. DRAIN FUEL FILTERS. INSTALL FUEL RETURN FITTING ON HIGH PRESSURE PUMP (LOWER LEFT, FRONT OF ENGINE).
ROUTE TO SUITABLE WASTE CONTAINER. (SEE PG 10-12) INSTALL TEMPORARY FUEL LINE BTWEEN FUEL DOSER AND FINAL FUEL FILTRE. CONNECT PRESERVATIVE FUEL/FLUID (MIL-S-53021 AND FQS-7000-01 BLENDED WITH A-A-52557

INSTALL BELL ENGINE CONTROL PANEL WITH HARNESS OR EQUIVALENT. CONNECT J2 CONTROL HARNESS TO CENTER TERMINAL OF ENGINE CONTROL UNIT LOCATED AT TOP REAR OF ENGINE. CONNECT C30 CONTROL HARNESS TO C30 ENGINE HARNESS. CONNECT C02 CONTROL HARNESS TO C02 ENGINE HARNESS. CONNECT ALT WIRE CONTROL HARNESS TO B+ TERMINAL ON ALTERNATOR. CONNECT START WIRE CONTROL HARNESS TO STARTER SOLENOID ENERGIZE TERMINAL AND TIGHTEN. CONNECT ECU GROUND CONTROL HARNESS TOGETHER.
CONNECT ECU/ALT POWER HARNESS TOGETHER. CONNECT POSITIVE (RED) BATTERY LEAD TO POST ON STARTER SOLENOID ON ENGINE. CONNECT NEGATIVE ( BLACK) BATTERY LEAD AT LOWER RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF ENGINE
BLOCKING USING ONE M12 1.75 X 30 BOLT.
7. CRANKCASE, COOLING AND FUEL SYSTEM PRESERVATION.
BEFORE STARTING ENGINE PRIME FUEL SYSTEM FOR 90 SECONDS. VERIFY FUEL IS FLOWING AT A STEADY STREAM FROM FUEL RETURN FITTING ON THE ENGINE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP INTO WASTE CONTAINER. IF NOT FLOWING AT A STEADY STREAM, BLEED FUEL FITLER AND REPEAT PRIMING PROCEDURE. (SEE PG 10-12). START ENGINE AND RUN AT LOW IDLE. VERIFY ENGINE OIL IS AT LEAST 50 PSI. CHECK FOR LEAKS. RUN ENGINE AT LOW IDLE FOR 2 MINUTES, THEN ADJUST THROTTLE TO 1800 RPM. OBSERVE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE. WHEN COOLANT TEMPERATURE REACHES 180 F, RUN ENGINE FOR AN ADDITIONAL 5 MINUTES. ADJUST THROTTLE TO LOW IDLE, RUN
FOR 30 SECONDS THEN SHUT DOWN ENGINE.
8. COMBUSTION CHAMBER PRESERVATION.
NOTE: NEVER CRANK ENGINE FOR MORE THAN 30 SECONDS. WAIT 2 MINUTES BEFORE RECRANKING.
ALLOW ENGINE TO COOL TO 100 F. DISCONNECT J2 AT ENGINE ECU. SPRAY 4 OZ OF MIL-PRF-21260 10W INTO MANIFOLD WHILE CRANKING ENGINE. CRANK FOR 20 SECONDS. RECONNECT J2 AT ENGINE ECU. START ENGINE AND RUN AT LOW IDLE FOR 10 SECONDS. SHUT DOWN ENGINE AND DISCONNECT J2 AT ENGINE ECU. ADD 2 OZ OF MIL-
PRF-21260 10W INTO MANIFOLD WHILE CRANKING ENGINE. CRANK FOR 20 SECONDS.
9. COMPLETE PRESERVATION OF ENGINE.
DRAIN COOLING SYSTEM. DO NOT REUSE. USE LOW PRESSURE AIR NOT TO EXCEED 120 PSI TO PURGE ANY REMAINING COOLANT FROM COOLING SYSTEM. DRAIN ENGINE CRANKCASE. DO NOT REUSE. REMOVE FUEL FILTERS, ENGINE OIL FILTER, DRAIN AND DISCARD FILTERS AND FLUID. INSTALL NEW FILTERS. DO NOT REFILL WITH FUEL AND OR OIL. DO NOT REMOVE FUEL DOSING CANISTER. REMOUNT ENGINE OIL FILTER TO FRONT OF ENGINE IN ORIGINAL SHIPPING LOCATION. CAP, PLUG ALL ENGINE OPENINGS AND HARNESS CONNECTIONS USING CAPS, PLUGS, AND
HARDWARE REMOVED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE ENGINE PRESERVATION PROCEDURES.
E. GASKETS, OR GASKET SHEET MATERIAL FOR USE WITH THE ENVELOPE SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED FROM ONE OF THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF MATERIALS: SYNTHETIC RUBBER, RECLAIMED RUBBER, NATURAL RUBBER, CORK AND RUBBER COMPOSITION, FIBER, AND OTHER MATERIALS APPROVED BY THE ACQUIRING ACTIVITY. THE GASKET MATERIAL SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM SHORE DUROMETER HARDNESS, TYPE A, OF 60. THE GASKET MATERIAL SHALL HAVE A NOMINAL THICKNESS OF 0.062 +/- 0.010 INCH. SHAPE AND SIZE OF GASKETS SHALL BE AS SPECIFIED IN THE CONTRACT OR ON APPLICABLE DRAWINGS. GASKET MATERIAL SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM F104 OR ASTM D2000.
ADHERE GASKETS TO BOTH SIDES OF BARRIER ENVELOPE AT MOUNTING HOLE LOCATIONS USING WATER RESISTANT ADHESIVE. AFTER POSITIONING BARRIER OVER BOLTS, A SUFFICIENT QUANTITY OF WATER-RESISTANT ADHESIVE SHALL BE APPLIED AROUND THE BOLT AND GASKET TO PROVIDE AIR TIGHT SEAL. CLOSE AND HEAT SEAL THE SIDES OF THE TOP OF THE BARRIER ENVELOPE, ELIMINATE EXCESS AIR TO COMPLETE WATERVAPORPROOF METHOD 53.
F. CONTAINER SHELL IS CONSTRUCTED OF ALL 1-INCH THICK NOMINAL CLEATS AND 1/2-INCH THICK PLYWOOD.
G. INSTALL BLOCKING/BRACING AS SHOWN ON PAGES 3. BLOCKING AND BRACING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH TM 38-701.
BLOCKING/BRACKING SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED OF 2 X 4 NOMINAL LUMBER. BLOCKING/BRACING LUMBER SHALL

L. DESICCANT SHALL BE PLACED WITHIN ENVELOPE, STEP 8-L, BUT OUTSIDE OF CUSHIONING, STEP 7-K.
M. CONTAINER SHELL SHALL BE SECURED TO SIDES AND ENDS OF BASE WITH LAG SCREWS. LAG SCREWS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASME/ANSI B18.2.1 OR B18.8.1. FLAT WASHERS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASME/ANSI B22.1.
N. SPECIAL MARKING SHALL BE APPLIED AS FOLLOWS:
1. ENGINE ASSEMBLY SERIAL NUMBER SHALL BE STENCILED ON THE CONTAINER IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-129.
2. IN ADDITION TO MIL-STD-129 MARKINGS, THE UNIT CONTAINER SHALL BE MARKED ON THE TOP AND SIDES WITH
MINIMUM 1/2-INCH HIGH BLACK LETTERS “REUSABLE CONTAINER AND CUSHIONING, DO NOT DESTROY”. IN ADDITION, THE TOP AND ENDS SHALL BE MARKED “REMOVE LAG SCREWS TO OPEN CONTAINER” USING 1/2-INCH HIGH BLACK LETTERS. CONTAINER SIDES AND ENDS SHALL ALSO BE MARKED NEAR THE TOP WITH MINIMUM 1/2-
INCH HIGH BLACK LETTERS “CAUTION: LIFT BY BASE ONLY”.
