A. PRESERVATION AND PACKAGING SHALL BE INSPECTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-2073-1D AND ANY

APPLICABLE CONTAINER SPECIFIATIONS.

B. CLEAN AND DRY ITEM BY ANY SUITABLE PROCESS BEFORE APPLICATION OF PRESERVATIVE AND PACKAGING

MATERIALS.

C. SEAL ALL OPENINGS TO INTERIOR WITH NAS847 CAPS/PLUGS OF APPROPRIATE SIZE. FOR OPENINGS TOO LARGE FOR A CAP/PLUG, COVER OPENING WITH MIL-PRF-121, TY I AND SECURE WITH TAPE. NOTE: BEFORE SEALING NBC FLEXIBLE SLEEVE OPENING, PLACE STRIPS OF CUSHIONING A-A-59135, 1/4 INCH THICK BETWEEN ALUMINUM FRAMES TO PREVENT FRAMES FROM PINCHING AND DAMAGING DUCT MATERIAL. SEE PHOTO #1 ON PAGE 2 FOR

GUIDANCE. NBC FLEXIBLE SLEEVE WILL BE INSTALLED ON GPFU ASSEMBLY.

D. FABRICATE 3 INCH HIGH SPACER BLOCKS, AS PART OF BASE CONSTRUCTION, TO USE BETWEEN THE GPFU

MOUNTING BRACKETS AND BASE. SPACER BLOCKS ARE REQUIRED TO ENSURE UNIT IS NOT RESTING ON NBC FLEXIBLE SLEEVE. SEE PHOTO #2 ON PAGE 3 FOR GUIDANCE. IF NBC FLEXIBLE SLEEVE COULD POSSIBLY RUB AGAINST BOTTOM OF CONTAINER, USING A GOOD WATERPROOF ADHESIVE, SECURE A PIECE OF CUSHIONING ASTM D4727, TY CF, CL DOM, VAR SW, GR 275 TO BOTTOM OF CONTAINER IN LOCATION OF NBC FLEXIBLE SLEEVE.

E. ALL HARDWARE SHALL BE ZINC PLATED AND CONFORM TO ASTM-F2329.

F. WRAP ITEM, EXCLUDING THE BOTTOM MOUNTING AREA, AND SECURE WITH TAPE.

G. CUSHIONING IS TO BE 1/8" THICKNESS. DOUBLE WRAP ITEM, EXCLUDING THE BOTTOM MOUNTING AREA, WITH CUSHIONING AND SECURE WITH TAPE. IF NECESSARY BASED ON CONSTRUCTION, CUSHION SPACER BLOCKING TO

PROTECT ENVELOPE AND SECURE WITH TAPE.

H. ENVELOPE FABRICATION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH SPECIFICATION MIL-DTL-6060. MATERIAL USED FOR FABRICATION OF GASKETS SHALL CONFORM TO SPECIFICATION ASTM-F104. GASKETS SHALL BE CEMENTED TO EACH SIDE OF THE ENVELOPE AT THE MOUNTING LOCATION USING MMM-A-260 ADHESIVE OR COMMERCIAL EQUIVALENT. A SUFFICIENT QUANTITY OF ADHESIVE SHALL BE APPLIED ON TOP OF THE GASKETS AROUND ANY

PROTRUSIONS TO PROVIDE AN AIRTIGHT SEAL.

I. CLOSE CONTAINER IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM-D6880 USING 3/8” X 3”LAG SCREWS FASTENED INTO SKID

MEMBERS.

J. IN ADDITION TO MIL-STD-129 MARKINGS, THE UNIT CONTAINER SHALL BE MARKED ON THE TOP AND SIDES WITH

MINIMUM 1/2 INCH HIGH BLACK LETTERS "REUSABLE CONTAINER, DO NOT DESTROY". IN ADDITION, THE TOP AND ENDS SHALL BE MARKED "REMOVE LAG SCREWS TO OPEN CONTAINER" USING 1/2 INCH HIGH BLACK LETTERS.

K. THE UNIT CONTAINER IS THE SHIPPING CONTAINER.
