1.0 BACKGROUND AND EXISTING CONDITIONS:
Fort Raleigh Headquarters building is used daily for permanent, term and seasonal employees and is the primary building for operations and management of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and The Wright Brothers National Monument. This project will replace a generator, fuel tank and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for the headquarters building. The generator is used as backup power for all power outages at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site to maintain operational capabilities of the headquarters offices. The existing generator was installed in 1991 and has an estimated design life of 20 years; this unit is 31 years old. The existing generator is a diesel 90KW Three Phase generator with and automatic switching unit that powers a specific portion of the headquarters building.
The existing generator is currently located inside of an outbuilding that houses the generator and the fuel tank that supports this generator. This existing fuel tank is not double walled or properly insulated.
2.0 OBJECTIVE:
Replace the current 31-year-old Three Phase 90 KW diesel generator with a new Three phase 100 KW diesel generator that includes an enclosed overcurrent protection device in the same location, install a new 2,000 gallon, double walled and insulated above ground fuel storage tank on a concrete pad in the designated space, replace the existing Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) with a new UPS, and perform all operation and functional testing for the new generator and the new UPS. The replacement includes all required electrical connections, disconnects, exhaust for the generator and multiple operational checks for the newly installed generator and UPS.
