STATEMENT OF WORK
1.0 CONTRACT PROJECT:

3.0 BACKGROUND:
ALARC is organized under the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) which is the principal research agency of the USDA and the Research, Education, and Economics (REE).
The U.S. Arid-Land Agricultural Research Center (ALARC) integrates the former Western Cotton Research
Laboratory and the U.S. Water Conservation Laboratory on a 20-acre site at the University of Arizona, Maricopa Agricultural Center (MAC). The facility opened in February 2006.
The location needs a Qualified Contractor to provide labor, supervision, equipment, and supplies/materials, except those furnished by the Government, necessary to perform Landscape and Groundskeeping Services.
The contractor shall maintain the current grounds and equipment to their most productive and efficient state of performance.
4.0 SCOPE OF SERVICES:
The Contractor shall provide all professional services necessary for the accomplishment of the contract project and such required services shall be in accordance with requirements as described herein.

5.0 PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:
The Contractor shall provide a cost estimate for labor, furnish a technical and cost proposal to complete the project for any requested work as detailed in section 5.1 below. All requested work will be performed at the
U.S. Arid Land Agricultural Research Center, Maricopa, Arizona.
❖ Prevailing wages apply to this project.
5.1 Schedule: Base
Provide qualified labor, supervision, equipment, and supplies/materials, except those furnished by the
Government, necessary to perform the complete Landscaping and Groundskeeping Services for the USDA
Agricultural Research Center, Maricopa, AZ.
❖ Contractor’s expertise is needed to determine the proper services needed to keep the health of the vegetation and keep the grounds visually and professionally appealing.
❖ Provide landscaping and groundskeeping services for approximately 75,000 square feet of graveled areas with various types of desert vegetation, including trimming and pruning of desert trees, 6 large
Fig palms, cacti and ground cover, including irrigation system programming and maintenance.
❖ Parking lot and walk-way cleanup.
❖ Weed control, including pre-emergent.
5.1.1 Landscape/Groundskeeping services and maintenance:
1. Maintain granite around buildings and parking lots, including replenishing granite from the
Governments’ existing stockpile.
2. Prune and trim all trees, including six (6) large Fig Palm trees, various other plantings and groundcover in order to restrict height and size, keep properly shaped and clear from buildings, as directed by the Facilities Manager.
A. Prune trees to develop the natural branching structure.
B. Thin branch growth, as needed, to provide for free air circulation through the remaining limbs and branches.
C. Apply “wound” paint to pruned branches greater than one (1) inch in diameter.
3. Clean up and remove from the location all broken branches, leaves, blossoms and other debris from around and under cactus, ground cover and trees, and the granite areas.
4. Remove weeds in sidewalks, cracks in the asphalt and all other vegetation-free areas.
A. Dig out and/or spray weeds, including weeds in the groundcover, if spraying large weeds, remove the dead weeds at the next visit.
B. Weed control restrictions around the greenhouse areas, to be discussed at site visit.
5. Spray the entire property with pre-emergent two (2) times per year.
A. Provide a minimum of one (1) weeks advanced notice for weed control spraying.
B. Include Yellow dye for the pre-emergent and Blue dye for the weed control for visual confirmation of completed work.
6. Inspect the health of the vegetation and report any decline to the Facilities Manager.
A. Remove any dead or dying plants as directed by the Facilities Manager.
7. Maintain and repair the drip system as needed.
A. Make necessary repairs, including valves, drip lines and controller, the government will supply the necessary repair parts after contractor notification of deficiency.
B. Program Automatic Controller, as needed, for the most efficient watering schedule as well as the vegetations’ seasonal watering needs.
5.2 Description of Work:
5.2.1 General:
a. All requested work shall comply with applicable federal, state (Arizona), and local code requirements as well as current industry standards, and health and safety codes, in effect at the time of contract award.
b. Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, transportation, and field supervision for the completion of any requested project.
c. All removed hardware, debris and surplus materials resulting from all completed work shall be removed from the work area and disposed of properly after completion of the project.
d. Contractor shall provide and maintain all necessary guards, lights, barricades, etc., to protect persons, property, and materials in and around the site.
e. Contractor shall schedule his work so that his working hours and the working hours of the location coincide (M-F -7:00am – 3:30pm). Should it be necessary to work hours other than the normal, regular working hours, the contractor shall arrange for access to the area with the location personnel.
f. Sanitation facilities: The contractor may use the government sanitary facilities during the execution of this project. It is required that the contractor use these facilities in a responsible manner.
