STATEMENT OF WORK
Retsch MM500 Nano and CryoMill Ball Mills
SCOPE
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Laboratories and Scientific Services (LSS) has a requirement for three (3) Retsch MM500 Nano Mixer ball mills, and three (3) Retsch CryoMill ball mills with necessary accessories for sample preparation of textiles. The LSS intends to purchase these systems as a brand name or better with training and install services for one set (MM500 Nano Mixer and Retsch CryoMill ball mills) each for the New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco Laboratory locations.
The instruments shall comply with the technical requirements listed below and with consensus method ISO 20921.
SPECIFICATIONS Brand Name or Equal:
Retsch CryoMill ball mill for synthetics (1 set each lab) Technology Closed liquid nitrogen (LN2) autofill system for jar cooling
Cryogenic Ball Mill. This allows the ability to simultaneously grind samples in a horizontal motion while cooling the grinding vessel with LN2. The Retsch CryoMill model additionally features a closed controlled cooling system for additional safety where only the jar is cooled thus decreasing the chance of injury with any open sources of LN2 as no direct contact with LN2 is possible.

Retsch MM500 Nano Ball Mill for natural products (1 set each lab) Technology The MM500 Nano Ball Mill appears to be a unique entity in the ball mill marketplace. It is a hybrid of both horizontal shaker mills and planetary ball mills due to the unique shape of the jar allowing to do a pseudo-replication of the centrifugal force generated by planetary mills, but along the horizontal plane of the mixer mill's impact grinding style. The jar styles allow for additional safety measures with the pressure screw-style lids and allow for 100% usage of the jar volume for grinding.
