About this file

This statement of work outlines requirements for a 3D optical profilometer instrument to characterize surface features of lithium-ion battery cells. The selected contractor must deliver a non-contact instrument using structured light with 0.1-micron resolution capable of profiling specimens up to 150 x 300 x 80 mm. Additional requirements include a 1024x768 pixel camera, 780,000 data points collected per 33 mm field of view in 1 second, rotational stitching to output 3D models, onsite technical support for the life of the tool, and a 24-inch LCD monitor. The related federal contract opportunity was issued by NASA's Shared Services Center seeking this 3D optical profilometer, with proposals due within 15 days of contract award.

Statement of Work (SOW)

3D Optical Profilometer Instrument

15 Aug 2023

1.0 Objective – To procure an instrument that uses structured light to characterize surface features and defects of commercial Li-ion cylindrical cells.

2.0 Scope – The contractor shall deliver a high accuracy, non-contact instrument triangulates light to profile physical characteristics with 100 nm resolution for discerning the criticality of defects for Li-ion cells.

3.0 Requirements

3.1 Resolution – The instrument shall have a resolution of 0.1 micron or 100 nanometers.

3.2 Measurable Area – The instrument shall be capable of profiling specimens with volumetric dimensions up to 150 x 300 x 80 mm while maintaining resolution specified in 3.1

3.3 Camera Resolution – The instrument camera shall have a resolution/pixel density of

1024x768 per Field of View (FOV).

3.4 Data Density – The instrument shall be capable of 780,000 data points in each 33 mm FOV.

3.5 Speed – The instrument shall be capable of collecting the data specified 3.4 in 1 second for each FOV.

3.6 Rotational Stitching – The instrument shall be capable of stitching surface profiles around a

4th axis to measure rotational profiles and output 3D models.

3.7 Technical Support – The contractor shall provide onsite support for their instrument for the life of the tool.

3.8 Monitor – The instrument shall be equipped with a 24” LCD display.

3.9 Calibration – The instrument shall be provided with a certified calibration standard containing relevant surface features.

4.0 Delivery – The contractor shall deliver the instrument system specified herein within 15 days after contract award.
