About this file
This statement of work outlines developmental component builds and material samples using directed energy deposition for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The contractor shall complete builds of welding and nozzle samples as well as material testing samples using NASA-specified alloys on a machine with a minimum 60-inch diameter by 72-inch build volume. The contractor must provide machine operation, an inert gas chamber, tool code development, input on part designs, maintenance, and operators for up to 1,000 hours of builds. The contractor must also conduct laser scanning, provide summary reports, handle part removal, and ship deliverables. NASA will furnish drawings, models, dimensions, and powder materials while receiving final samples. This supports the related federal contract opportunity with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center to procure these directed energy deposition services.

Development Component Builds and Material Samples using Directed Energy Deposition
Statement of Work (SOW)
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), specifically Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) has a need for developmental component builds using thin-wall Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition (DED) to complete for characterization and testing.
The SOW is as follows:
1. Vendor shall complete developmental builds of components including:
a. Welding Samples using NASA HR-1 or JBK-75 alloys per NASA engineering requirements.
b. Large Scale Nozzle development pieces using NASA HR-1 or JBK-75 alloys per
NASA models.
c. Material testing samples to verify parameters and deposition quality per NASA engineering requirements.
2. These component builds shall be completed on a 557 machine capable of a build volume at a minimum of 60” dia by 72” for large scale components.
3. Machine hours up to 1,000 hours shall include the following (approximately 55 days):
a. Provide operator for machine setup and deposition.
b. Provide an inert gas chamber as part of the build to minimize oxidation.
c. Provide tool code required to complete large format samples.
d. Provide inputs into part designs.
e. Provide all maintenance on the machine during the period of builds.
f. Provide operators necessary to operate the machine.
g. Shall include other required direct costs such as consumables and necessary replacement components (inert gas, build-nozzle components, filters, etc).
h. Complete laser scanning of parts post-deposition.
i. Provide summary build reports.
j. All engineering support should be included as part of the continuous-build machine capacity. This includes all tool path generation, inspections, trouble shooting of build failures, reporting, etc.
k. Shall include removal of parts from the build plate as required.
4. NASA shall provide drawings, models, and dimensions as required.
5. NASA shall provide DED-sized powder for the builds.
Shipping
1. Contractor shall ship all deliverables and process development samples to:
Marshall Space Flight Center Central Receiving, Bldg 4631 Attn: Paul Gradl Huntsville, AL 35812
Deliverables
1. Summary reports of builds and samples outlined in Requirement 1A, B, C.
