Doc. #A213-2301-XR2, Rev. A
AANTENNA STRUCTURAL SIMULATOR
Statement of Work and Specification
Doc. #: A213-2301-XR2 Revision: A
NASA Ames Research Center, Code RE
1. Purpose
a. Design and assembly of an Antenna Structural Simulator. Project will result in the delivery of test hardware for use with the Hinged Layover Mechanism currently in development at Ames Research Center.
2. Scope of Work
The contractor shall perform the following duties:
a. Design, assembly, and delivery of one Antenna Structural Simulator (see 3.a.i).
Detailed design choices that effect the stiffness of the Stacer should be closely coordinated with Ames technical personnel.
b. One-time onsite consultation at time of delivery for handling and hazard identification discussion on the delivered hardware.
c. Assembly and delivery of one Stacer Simulator (see 3.a.ii) to Ames.
d. Design and project coordination with Ames on an as-needed basis, an informal
(virtual) design review is required prior to manufacturing the Antenna Structural Simulator.
e. Transportation and delivery of the Antenna Structural Simulator and Stacer Simulator to Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, CA. Contractor shall delivery the hardware in the deployed state and will coordinate all transportation requirements. Hardware will be supplied with appropriate packaging to protect it during transportation. Alternatively, the contractor may choose to transport the hardware in the stowed condition and deploy the Stacers at Ames.
3. Specification
a. Configurations
i. A213-2301-XR2-1 Antenna Structural Simulator
Description: Antenna simulator with representative mounting, mass, CG, and deployed Stacer. This configuration consists of an integrated Canister and Stacer assembly per Figure 2.
Use: Antenna Structural Simulator will be used to verify and correlate modal frequencies of the antenna to structural analysis.
Tests will be completed in lab conditions at the expected end state of the mechanism. Antenna Structural Simulator will not be used in performance testing (actuations) of the Hinged Layover Mechanism.
ii. A213-2301-XR2-2 Stacer Simulator Description: Deployed Stacer simulator with design parameters per 3.d.ii. The Stacer Simulator will also come with an integrated mounting flange at the base and attachment point for sphere tip.
Use: Stacer Simulator will be used as a spare in case of damage to the primary test article. Design should allow for Ames engineering personnel to disassemble the Antenna Structural Simulator and replace the Stacer Simulator without specialty Stacer expertise.
b. Mounting
i. The Simulator shall include the following mounting pattern. Dimensions are IN [mm].
Figure 1: Mounting Dimensions
c. Envelope
i. The Simulator shall meet the following envelope dimensions and material callouts. Dimensions are IN.
d. Technical Requirements
i. Mass and Center of Mass. Note: values may be considered targets and deviations may be accepted with mutual agreement.
Antenna Structural Simulator Mass = 7.98lb End Sphere Mass: 0.33lb Total Assembly CoM = (X,Y,Z) = (0, 0, 55.83in)
ii. Acceptable Stacer Parameters (Note: these values are acceptable for final delivery but are not considered target)
Figure 2: Envelope Dimensions
Material: Elgiloy Strip Thickness: 0.004in Strip Width: 5.00in Staircase Factor: 65% Tip Diameter: 0.75in Base Diameter: 1.88in Deployed Length: 264.4in
iii. Target Stacer Parameters: (Note: these are desired values, it is understood vendor may not satisfy all targets)
Material: Elgiloy Strip Thickness: 0.004in Strip Width: 5.00in Staircase Factor: 80% Tip Diameter: 0.70in Base Diameter: 1.26in Deployed Length: 264.4in
iv. Stacer Mount Location: Base of Stacer can shall be mounted at Z = 6.98in internal to canister
v. Stacer Guides Stacer mounting shall incorporate two spring guides at Z = 18.6in and Z = 29.9in Each guide shall consist of 4 radially placed springs with a stiffness of k=8.33lbs/in directions at each guide location before hitting an annular hard stop.
Annual hard stop at Z=29.9in shall have a width of .070in with a break edge around the full diameter on both sides.
ii. Stacer Cord: The Simulator shall incorporate a central line within the body of the Stacer. The line shall be secured at the tip and base and shall control the length of the boom to the value specified in 3.d.iv.
